Severnaya 2

Surface 2, Severnaya 2, Siberian Plateau

Surface 2 is the eighth level in the game, and takes place in the same locale as the first Surface level. This time, there are cameras around, the guards are tougher, and the sky is a blood red, making it more difficult to see around the level. Some of the huts are now equipped with cameras. This time the weapons used by the enemies in the Surface 2 are the KF7 Soviet and the Klobb. There are no snipers in the level this time around.

When you start, some of the guards already know exactly where you are, so take them out quick. When you reach the interior room of the satellite dish with the dish's consoles, this time around the controls for it need to be destroyed, rather than turned off like they were in the first Surface. To destroy them, either use a dropped grenade from one of the guards, or shoot at the controls with weapons.

Background

Surface 2, Severnaya 2.The Pirate helicopter was tracked to Severnaya, where a Keyhole-1 ELINT satellite recorded a brief firefight.

After the Pirate left, the same satellite observed a troop helicopter being made ready at a Spetznaz camp, 200 miles due south. The only way that we can get you there quickly is to drop you from a spy plane, and the Soviet Special Forces will be there before you.

Objectives
  1. Disrupt All Surveillance Equipment (00 Agent)
  2. Break the Communications Link to the Bunker (Agent)
  3. Disable Spetznaz Support Aircraft (Secret Agent)
  4. Gain Entry to the Bunker (Agent)
M Briefing

You should remember this place, 007. We need any evidence of Janus’ presence there, and fast. Disable the troop helicopter so that nothing can be removed from the scene, and destroy their surveillance cameras

This had to be an inside job, Bond. Find out who their contact was – the macabre way to do it would be to use their casualty list. Of course, you would have to know who was there first.

Q Branch

Right, I have altered the standard mine to take a ten-second fuse. There’s only one, so do not play around with it. That should take care of their helicopter. This is a covert op, so I have fitted a silence to your pistol. Satisfied? No? Well, tough; that is all you are getting.

Moneypenny

Remember the saying, James? "Never go back?"

Notes

There are no sniper rifles, instead, most of the bad guys are armed with Klobbs. Those guns will eat up ammo pretty quickly, so 00 Agents should use their PP7s instead. Agents and Secret Agents should be able to find enough Soviet ammo to tide them over, but the 00s will have to save those bullets for a big shootout at the end.

The Comms room key is in the same cabin as in the first Surface.

Surface 2, Severnaya 2, Satellite Dish. You were planted here in mission 4 (surface), so this environment should be more familiar. Bond needs to go to only three areas to beat this mission in the medium mode. Start by defeating three soldiers who are all carrying Klobbs. Take the bounty. Switch to the Klobb. Follow these basic steps. Stay on the main road until you reach the third road on the right. Take it past the empty bunker on your right, to the dead-end with a single bunker on it. defeat the surveillance camera and enter, and then defeat the military commando just inside the door. Pick up the comms room key and his gun. you will need the key later.

Head back to the main road and defeat the soldiers. When you reach the main road, take a right, at the fork just before the satellite, take a right and follow this road to the satellite building. Run and miss the soldiers who are looking for you. Run up the stairs, locate and shoot the surveillance camera (at the second tier), open the door at the end of the stairs and see the communications computer console. Smash it. Text will tell you when it is completely destroyed. Five soldiers are waiting.

Two objectives left (in the medium mode), and to meet them you need to take this path. In the hard mode, you must go to the enemy bunker. There are at least two camera in that area, and you should be fully loaded and in good health. You take damage. Go back to the main road, and take a left at the fork and head toward the ventilation shaft. If you take the next left, you go to the ventilation shaft, which is perfect if you are in mission 4. Before you reach the ventilation shaft, take the right at the fork, avoiding the ventilation shaft. By taking a right, you run to the helicopter and the bunker. Switch to the timed bomb, plant on the helicopter, walk far away and make sure the helicopter is blown up. A few stray soldiers will show up. Usually you can just stray left to avoid them. Enter the bunker. you are done.

Trivia
  • This Surface is exactly the same as the first Surface, save that the vent tower is not accessible.
  • In this Surface, the guards with Klobbs always know where you are. The guards with KF7 Soviets are patrolling certain routes, and will not engage you unless they actually see you.
  • If a guard stands on the yellow "H" on the helipad, his textures will be tinted yellow until he steps back off it.
  • It is possible to defeat the guards who take Bond captive at the end of the level.
  • In one of the huts/shacks, similarly to first Surface, there will be figurine there. This time however it is just one, and of the Spetznaz support aircraft. Destroying it results in the similar violent explosion as the previous figurines did.

Bunker 2, Severnaya 2, Siberian Plateau

Bunker 2 is a level in GoldenEye 007, which takes place in Severnaya Bunker Complex which is located at the underground after the Severnaya Installation 2 (Surface of Severnaya.) James is caught by the guards and is thrown in jail. There, he meets a woman named Natalya Fyodorovna Simonova who is there because they believe she betrayed her countrymen. Bond may call the guard over and sneaks the key from him with a magnet on his watch. Bond then gets Natalya out and they must survive through the level. Bond has to pick up a CCTV tape, compare staff and casualties lists, and has to retrieve a book and his weapons from the safe, all while needing to escape with Natalya. The surroundings are silver colored walls that look like tile. The guards used are the Arctic Commandos, and they use KF7 Soviets and Klobbs.

More Arctic Commandos show up with DD44 Dostoveis and occasionally Klobbs or KF7 Soviets if the alarm is activated during the mission. These guards wear armor and have generally better aim than the normal Arctic Commandos found on this level, making the mission much harder to complete. Bond and Natalya escape from the bunker's front entrance when all objectives are complete.

Background

Bunker 2, Severnaya 2, Siberian Plateau.Escape is the first priority. Find the staff and casualty lists, and the CCTV tape of your capture. If there are any witnesses, try and bring them out as well.

Objectives
  1. Compare staf/Casualty Lists (Secret Agent)
  2. Recover the CCTV tape (Agent)
  3. Disable All Security Cameras (Secret Agents)
  4. Recover the GoldenEye Operations Manual (00 Agent)
  5. Escape with Natalya (Agent)
M Briefing

Unbelievable, 007. If this gets out we’ll be the laughing stock of the international community. As soon as you get back – IF you get back – you’re getting a performance review. Only completing the objectives will give you a hope of keeping your rather checkered career intact.

Q Branch

You got your wits and that is about it, 007. Not much I can do to help you here. You might try to find your equipment again when you escape from the cell, though, It took me a lot of time to get all that stuff together.

Moneypenny

Grabbed by the Spetznaz, James? Sounds painful.

When the level first starts, Bond sees a woman in his cell nearby. They approach each other when the guard is not looking.

BOND: It appears that we are cellmates.

NATALYA: Who are you, anyway?

BOND: The name's Bond, James Bond.

NATALYA: Natalya Fyodorovna Simonova

BOND: Charmed to meet you, Natalya. Why have you been locked up.

NATALYA: They think that I am a traitor, - that I betrayed my countrymen.

BOND: And did you?

NATALYA: Of course not. Ourumov stole the Goldeneye.

BOND: Colonel Arkady Grigorovich Ourumov? I've met him before.

NATALYA: Ourumov is a general now. In charge of the Space Weapon program. What brings you to Siberia, James Bond?

BOND: I work for the British Government. I'm looking for a stolen helicopter.

NATALYA: That does not matter anymore.

BOND: Why not?

NATALYA: You are a spy and I am a traitor. We will be shot.

BOND: I do not think so. I have a cunning plan.

BOND: Guard! My stomach hurts. I'm going to be sick.

JAILER: [sigh] You must think I was born yesterday.

NATALYA: That worked well.

BOND: I'm really ill. Open the cell door!

JAILER: Shut up! do not bother me again.

NATALYA: Nice work.

[Bond uses the Watch Magnet Attract to get the key and opens the door.]

JAILER: Stop or I'll shoot!

[Bond defeats the jailer and opens Natalya's cell.]

NATALYA: You seem to know your way around, James. Have you been here before?

[Bond and Natalya go to the main control room.]

NATALYA: I'm going to check the control console. Ourumov has activated the Goldeneye satellite! it is going to fire on Severnaya! We have got to escape!

Bunker 2, Severnaya 2.This level is hard, but it is one of the best designed levels in the game. you are stuck in a cell and next to you is Natalya, who you meet for the first time. (Approach her cell and initiate a conversation. You do not have to talk with her if you do not want to). Check your gadgets. Switch to the magnet watch attract. Approach the side of the cell with the door on it. Across from you is a key, so press Z and the key will fly to you. Wait until the guard is really close to you and press B to unlock the jail cell door. The guard will bend down on one knee to shoot at you, when he stands up give him three judo chops. Take his KF7 Soviet. Switch to the watch attract magnet again, walk to the circular caged platform at the end of the hallway, press Z, and you pick up a set of throwing knives.

You can let Natalya out by pressing B at the cell door, but do not. Go to the double door, look through the windows. Use you site and in the next minute you should see as many as three soldiers walk by. Knock each off with a blow to the head. Try to use only one bullet per soldier, otherwise you make a racket and the whole building will know you are there. If you are not that good yet, try to control your fire to a single shot, pause, and then another single shot. Open the door, peak around the left corner, it should be clear, but do not go down the long hallway on your left yet. Go to the double doors ahead (which you will need a security key) and turn left. Another set of doors (which you can get through). Peak through the window. Three guards. Aim for one, peg him in the head, and stand back. The two others should come out. Try to be quiet while you end their boring lives.

The basic aim here in this first part is to avoid the many annoying security cameras (which are everywhere) and find security keys. Go back to the long hallway and stop at the end. Soldiers will pass by. Wait until there is just one and then peg him quietly (one shot). At least three others will follow. defeat them as quietly as you can, too. Go up the short flight of stairs head straight. you are now entering an automatic gun area that was not in the easy level. At your first turn look up and ahead, the back of a big gun. Blast it. Run through the maze until you see a red light. It comes after the blue light. Stop when you see it and the big automatic gun. Blast it. Walk ahead into that slightly open area and stop. To your right is another big automatic gun. Blast it. Stray soldiers will come from behind you every so often, so keep an eye out for them.

there is a split in the hallways. Turn right and defeat two gunmen and hide in the corner while you reload. Lean out and defeat the guy on the other end of the hallway. At least a half dozen more soldiers in little batches will arrive from both ends of the little maze you are in, but if you are somewhat subtle, their march will end. defeat them all off and then peak out into the long hallway, but do not step out. there is a guard at the end of it. Pick him off with slow single shots. The coast should be clear. Run down the hallway and take your first right. Peep through the window, defeat off one guy. The door will open, defeat the next guy. You should pick up Keycard A also the Severnaya staff list.

Step out of the room, take a left, go down the flight of stairs (you should recognize the area), go down the hallway, and take a left. The keycard will now open those double doors. If no guards are around then run like the dickens to the next set of doors. If you stop and look down the hallway, you are sunk. There are two guards there, plus a security camera. that is why you run. Turn around and wait for the dumb guards. defeat them. Now enter the double doors. Then look through the window, defeat one guy through the window, and the door will open, followed by at least three guys. defeat them quickly and hide in the storage slot on your left. If no one comes, then one by one defeat each single or set of guys who hide in those storage slots. If all goes well, then the room will be empty. Look around. There are two important items here. One is a red clipboard, and the other is a body vest. The clipboard will allow you to meet objective A. Grab them both and head toward the opposite door.

Look through the next double doors. Knock out the camera. Go through the hallway, and instead of ascending the stairs on your right, pass them. there is another camera waiting for you there, so do not do it. Instead, circle all the way around to where you picked up the keycard A and the staff list, pass that room, and enter the long hallway. Walk down the hallway. You have several choices. First take out the most obvious camera in that hallway. Take one slow shot at a time. We have actually knocked one of these cameras out in one shot, but it usually takes three. Back up a few steps now. Take the first door on your left. Peak through the second set of doorways, and look left. Blow out the camera on your left, and then wait for the guard inside to move on you. defeat him and take his keycard B. More guards will arrive from outside. Keep their deaths somewhat quiet, and stay away from the mainframes so stray bullets do not blow them up.

Leave the room, take a right, and do not move. Inside that room is a camera. Open the door and strafe right out of its site. Time your approach so that when you strafe back in its site, you blast it right off. If you blow this chance, you are history. Lots of guards will defeat you. OK, once that is done, enter the room. Head toward the other door and look straight up. The nastiest camera in the game is way up on the wall. Blast it. Only two left. Enter that room and grab the CCTV tape. Yes! Now back out, and head toward the main control room.

you are almost done, and there is only one camera left (thank God!). Peak around the corner. Two guards hover inside the glass encased room across the way. Two more guard the exit. Start picking them off one by one, but still remaining in hiding. After defeating them off, get to the stairway closest to you, and switch to your Klobb (actually you should have double Klobbs by now). defeat off as many as two to four guys in that room. Descend the stairs. Head toward glass room across the main room. Make sure to stay against the wall. there is a camera up on the wall in there. Use your site and blast it. Almost done.

Go get Natalya from out of her cell. She will follow you back to the main room, although slowly and sometimes awkwardly. Nonetheless, she will follow you. She will check a computer, set off a timer, and then both of your should run the heck out of there. Use the glass door exit, run up the stairs, and depart. you are done.

Addendum

Silenced PP7s: There is a way to get two Silenced PP7's in this. There is a safe that can be opened in this level that will recover your PP7 and your dossier. If you go to the room that has six mainframes and one camera and one soldier, you will find a safe key that will open the safe near the prison from which you extricated yourself. This safe is the closest one to the jail cells. These guns are only available in the Agent and Secret Agent levels.

Trivia
  • Approaching the bars by Natalya starts a conversation in which Bond will try to fool the guard into releasing him.
  • A computer monitor in the room nearest to the cells shows an animated Karl Hilton "talking," a former Rare employee. At the time, he was the Scenic Art Director of the game.
  • Bond is able to carry two Silenced PP7s after unlocking the safe. This is the last time the Silenced PP7 appeared in the game.
  • Where you start, there is a hole with water in it. In the hacked pre-release GoldenEye, this hole is available for entry and it contains a knife. In the newer GoldenEye, the hole is covered over by a grate, and the knife is still visible. The knife can be obtained with the watch magnet attract.
  • The CCTV tape picked up in this mission seems to have the cover for the GoldenEye movie.
  • The Severnaya Incident is not properly shown in the ending of this mission, as Bond and Natalya simply escape the facility before the satellite destroys it, while the sound of a siren can be heard if the player waited long enough.
  • Of the five singleplayer levels which are also available in multiplayer, Facility, Archives, and Caverns each have around half of the level inaccessible behind a locked door, while Egyptian lets the players explore the full map. In contrast, Bunker 2 is the only map which has more room to maneuver around in multiplayer than in singleplayer. Exiting the bunker and going outside in singleplayer will end the level, whereas in the multiplayer version, players can freely go out onto the helipad and a short way onto the surrounding surface area.
Glitches
  • Using a grenade, at the end of the level, allows the player to defeat Natalya in the ending cinematic.
  • Cheated Only: Setting eight remote mines on the eight monitors in the main control room and detonating them will cause the game's physics to glitch out; all projectiles (thrown weapons, rockets and grenades) will hang in the air where they are fired.
