Information

Nintendo GOLF lets you choose your clubs, change your stance, control your swings and even select the angle of impact! You will view the hole from both close up and far away, judge the changing conditions of the green, and measure the wind velocity. But watch out! When the wind changes, so does the flight of your ball. With Nintendo's state-of-the-art graphics and realistic game play, you will really believe you are on the fairways. So play Nintendo GOLF, because there is not a video golf game on par with it anywhere!

Golf features two challenging 18 hole courses where players are able to play a round of golf, and allows players to choose a club, adjust stance and control the swing. The game features three alternating views; an overhead long-range view of the entire hole, an overhead medium-range view from the ball's current location, and an overhead close-range view of the green. Gameplay modes include 1 player, or 2 player play with a link cable.

Controls

Up and Down: Switch/Rotate Clubs

Right and Left: Move the aiming cursor

A Button: The confirm button. Starts the swing and decides the distance and accuracy of the shot.

B Button: The cancel button. Also shows you the map of the hole, when you are in-game. Press it again to view the green in detail.

Start: Confirms selections in the menus. When playing, it shows you the scoreboard of your round.

Select --- Save menu.

Gameplay

This version of Golf is very simple. All you can do is to tweak the direction of your swing, and switch the clubs. Then you may begin swinging. That is all you can do.

Viewing the Hole Map

Press B once to view the entire thing at once. Then decide what direction your swing should lead the ball to. Press B again to go back to the swing screen.

Changing the Direction

Press Left/Right to tweak the direction.

Changing Club

Up/Down will rotate the clubs. The toughest part of the game is easily deciding which club you will use because the game gives you absolutely no clue on how long a club will take you, if you use its full potiental. Use this table to find which club you would use when in need.

 ----------------------------
| Club | Max. Distance |
|----------------------------|
| 1W | 260 yards |
| 3W | 230 yards |
| 4W | 220 yards |
| 1I | 210 yards |
| 3I | 190 yards |

| 5I | 170 yards |
| 6I | 160 yards |
| 7I | 150 yards |
| 8I | 140 yards |
| 9I | 125 yards |

Swing Meter

Now you will have to swing.

    |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
       ^ ^
    max power sweet spot

Start at the 'sweet spot' and it will go to the left once you press A. Press A again when the meter reaches your desired distance and it will head back to the sweet spot. Press A again at the sweet spot. If your shot was within the sweet spot, you will have a straight and true shot, but if you were off, the shot will go left or right of your chosen direction.

The lower the club (with 1W as the highest and SW the lowest) is, the bigger the sweet spot is.

If you nail the max power and the sweet spot on a 1W on the same swing, you will get the 'Super Shot' message from the game and get a bit extra yards.

Putting

The meters goes for putting only this time you do not have to worry about the accuracy portion of the swing. You only have to press A twice - once to start the swing and once to select the distance.

The greens have bumps and hills, and the slopes are displayed with arrows pointing to the downward direction. You can view the green in detail by pressing 'B' twice when you are in the shot screen.

Wind

You must take the wind speed (seen with the arrow on the bottom of the screen) into consideration. The shot will always drift in the wind's direction, whether if it is going up, down, left, or right. If the wind is going to the left, slide your cursor a bit to the RIGHT of your desired position. It is a bit difficult to tell you where EXACTLY you should put the cursor to offset the wind, but after a few runs at it, you should be comfortable with it.

Hole 1 - 391 Yards - Par 4

A soft dog leg banking a large lake. The green is flanked by bunkers in both sides, making it difficult to land the ball near the pin.

1st shot

1W, to the NE, toward the thin part of the fairway.

2nd shot

4W or 1I, depending on your distance from the cup. You cannot have a shot with 3I because it will land you a bunker shot. You HAVE to over-power it over the bunker and hope it will stop before it runs of green.

Bunker shot

If you got into a bunker near the green, just use the SW and hit about 1/2 of the gauge and you should do well.

Hole 2 - 468 Yards - Par 4

A grove of trees cuts through the first part of the fairway, and it comes together in the latter part. The fairway goes straight to the green, which is protected weakly by 4 bunkers. The bunkers should not be any problem , but the grove might pose a dilemma.

1st shot

With a 3W or 5W, drive to the LEFT, toward the left side of the fairway. From there, you have a clear view to the green while the right side would have you facing several trees.

2nd shot

Take out your 1W and unleash your wrath upon the ball.

Putting

Try to put your ball to the rear side of the green. The hole is closer to that part. Putting will be very easy here if you do that.

Hole 3 - 162 Yards - Par 3

You will have to sail over a river to reach the green. If you go too far, you might end up in a bunker.

1st shot

Take your 5I (or 6I if the wind is going up) and use the entire meter to reach the green. You might end up in the rear part of the green (the pin is in the front), but it is the safe way to do it since water takes over the front part.

Putting

The green goes all of the way downhill toward the front.

Hole 4 - 479 Yards - Par 5

A body of water divides the first part of the fairway from the second. The green is well-protected by two bunkers. A tough one.

1st shot

DO NO USE 1W! Instead, use a 4W or 1I. If you use a 1W, you will probably end up in the water dividing the two fairways.

2nd shot

Adjust your shot to the left, toward the second fairway. You cannot make the green from here, so forget about that. A 1I or 3I will be fine.

3rd shot

You should have 140~150 yards left. Looks like a 6I here, if you are in that range. Of course, aim for the green.

Bunker shot

You can get here pretty easily so I don't blame you. 3/4 of the meter should get you on pretty easily.

Hole 5 - 380 Yards - Par 4

One of the toughest. You have to out-drive the panel of trees running along the fairway to get a good look at the green. Then, you have to shoot the ball over a large piece of sand horseshoe-ing the green.

1st shot

1W is a must here. Aim toward the right side of the fairway and give it a good shot. Hopefully, you will land in a spot with a good look at the green without any trees blocking the way.

2nd shot

If you got about 195+ yards left, use a 4W. Anything less would need a 1I, but I recommend 4W anyway because 1I gives you a danger of firing into the bunker.

Hole 6 - 226 Yards - Par 3

A straightforward Par 3. There are some trees along the fairway, but they should give you any trouble. Beyond the green lies a lake, so don't over-power it.

1st shot

Easily a 4W. Aim toward the left side of the green, because the green goes downhill all of the way to the right.

Putting

I hope you took my advice in the 1st shot. If you landed on the left side, you have a good chance of a birdie. If you went to the right. You will likely have 20 yards or so to go. 2/3 of the gauge should be sufficient.

Hole 7 - 274 Yards - Par 4

A strange hole. The Fairway goes to the right, and the hole is on the other side of the lake, to the left. You will have to travel along the fairway to have a closer look at the green

1st shot

1W along toward the fiarway, obviously. (NE)

2nd shot

An accurate 3I shot from 180 yards is prefect. If you got 180+, use 1I instead.

Hole 8 - 335 Yards - Par 4

A slight dog leg to the right. A bunker protects the front side of the green. Almost no obstacles here.

1st shot - Ride the dog leg to the right with a 1W.

2nd shot - Aim toward the center of the green. Use a 7I or higher.

Hole 9 - 495 Yards - Par 5

A long curving fairway extends to the left, and there is a small piece of fairway to the right. 4 bunkers are scattered around the field, and one of them is below the green.

1st shot

NOT RECOMMENDED to go to the tiny patch of land to the right. Why? Because if you miss, you get an OB penalty! Instead, go to the safe path: aim to the LEFT of the 1st bunker with a 1W.

2nd shot

Again, with a 1W, aim for the second part of the fairway, over some trees and a bunker.

3rd shot

You should have 180+ yards remaining for your 3rd shot, assuming you had solid shots without hitting anything. If so, use a 3I or 1I (with wind against you) and you should get close to the pin.

Hole 10 - 342 Yards - Par 4

The fairway goes north and goes dead left, to the green. It looks like a 'L' backward and upside down. Some trees and two bunkers surround the green.

1st shot

Use 1W and head up the fairway.

2nd shot

1I is fine from 200 yards. Anything less... 3I.

Hole 11 - 142 Yards - Par 3

A tough green is surrounded by two bunkers - one to the north and south. Precision is necessary here.

1st shot

Head straight for the pin with a 7I. Going left or right is unwise - it goes toward the bunkers.

Bunker shot

You are probably 30~40 yards from the pin. With a SW, use up 4/5 of the gauge.

Hole 12 - 393 Yards - Par 4

A fairway extends to the right, then the land is limited only to the forest and another fairway pops up again near the green to the north.weblogimage1st shot

Aim for the highest point in the first fairway with a 3W or 4W. Do not get into the rough!

2nd shot

Use an 1I, since the distance is about 200.

Hole 13 - 545 Yards - Par 5

A zigzag course that goes to the right first, then to the left, and finally goes right again for the hole.

1st shot

Follow the fairway with a 1W or 3W.

2nd shot

Follow the fairway to the left with a 1W.

3rd shot

Should be around 200 yards left, so use an 1I for your final shot before the green.

Hole 14 - 443 Yards - Par 4

The course is divided between a large bunker and fairways, with the sand trap covering the left side. A fairway occupies the right side and skips to the next one up the middle. Two bunkers await you on the way to the green.

1st shot

Use a 3W to reach the fairway's end safely. Hug the left side, though.

2nd shot

Use a 4W or 1I to reach the green.

Hole 15 - 258 Yards - Par 4

The fairway goes NW, and abruptly goes dead east to the hole.

1st shot

Follow the fairway to the NW with a 1W or 3W (don't over-power it and land in a rough).

2nd shot

If you landed in the far rough, 1W is strong enough to pull you onto the green. If you successfully landed on the fairway here, use a 4W or 1I.

Hole 16 - 429 Yards - Par 4

A stream cuts through the course, dividing the fairway into two. The left side is longer and more safer to shoot into. the right side is shorter, but much closer to the green.

1st shot

I like to be safe, so I shot a drive toward the left fairway. the right fairway is pretty far, but if you really want to try, go ahead.

2nd shot

1I, easily. 200 yards can be conquered with that club.

Hole 17 - 484 Yards - Par 5

A long one. The first fairway goes to the NW, then a bunker stops it from going NE, and he fairway appears again, NE of the bunker. A body of water is between the second and third fairway. Beyond the third fairway lies the green and the bunker behind it. Whew!

1st shot

A 1W, of course. Follow the fairway going NW.

2nd shot

Head for the second piece of fairway. Use a 4W.

3rd shot

You should have about 160~170 yards left. 4I/5I is good here.

Hole 18 - 207 Yards - Par 3

VERY easy. All you got is a fairway, then the green, and a bunker behind it.

1st shot

1I. That's all I'm going to say.

Hole 1 - 384 Yards - Par 4

The fairway is lodged between two batches of trees, and it goes staight up and shifts to the right. The green is to the left of the fairway's end. Two ponds guard the green.

1st shot

1W or 3W is fine, as long the drive would not go too close to the trees between the fairway and the green. If the ball is too close to the forest, you might not have a chance to get a lie on the green since the trees are in your way. Instead, drive for 230 to 250 yards, straight up.

2nd shot

With about 150 yards left, 6I should work. Watch out for the wind, though. Every time I went on this hole, there were massive winds going in all directions.

Hole 2 - 194 Yards - Par 3

The path to the green is screened by two trees, and beyond the par 3 green is a large bunker. A difficult shot to land.

1st shot

3I, with the drive of 190 works wonders. Watch for the wind, though. Use a 4I if the wind is going upwards, and 1I if it is against you.

Hole 3 - 481 Yards - Par 5

4 round parts of fairway dot the first part, along the lake front of the tee. Then there is a dog leg going from right to left. At the end of the god leg lies a narrow isthmus that leads to the green.

1st shot

A difficult shot to make to a fairway. If you leave the direction arrow untouched, it will lead you to the fourth and final circular fairway, assuming there is none to little wind. I recommend that you aim for the third one, however. 1W is fine.

2nd shot

If your lie is on the rough, use a 1I to get to the second part of the fairway, to the right. If your lie is on a fairway, then use a 3W or 4W to get a good lie on the upper part of the second fairway.

3rd shot

160 yards? 6I. 170 yards? 5I. 150 yards? 7I. You know. Just make sure you are able to clear the trees front of the green.

Hole 4 - 352 Yards - Par 4

The fairway skips over a lake. A small fairway re-appears on the left side of the island on the back of the course. On the right side, there's the green.

1st shot

Aim for the north-most point in the first fairway with a 1W.

2nd shot

You should have about 180 or 190 yards left. Use a 3I.

Hole 5 - 408 Yards - Par 4

A body of fairway grass is to the north of the tee, and it spawns two another fairways, one to the north, and one to the west. The green is to the NW, centered among the forest. The two distant fairways are useless here.

1st shot

Ignore the two faraway fairways and concentrate on the fairway closest to you. Use a 3W to reach the top of the key.

2nd shot

About 220 yards should be between you and the green. Use a 1W or 3W here.

Hole 6 - 556 Yards - Par 5

There are two paths to the green - one to the left, and one to the right. The fork is divided by a grove of trees.

1st shot

Go to the right since it leads to a path without obstacles, and a possible eagle chance (only if a strong breeze is going north). The left path requires you to travel over some trees and a bunker to the green and I ain't no liking it! Use an 1W along the eastern path.

2nd shot

Mind the trees that might get to your way and shoot the ball with 1W or 3W. Head for the fairway by the green.

3rd shot

Should be around 90 or 100 yards left. Use a PW if there is no resistance from the wind. Use a 8I or a 9I if there is some wind against you. (Use an 8I if you're on a rough.)

Hole 7 - 354 Yards - Par 4

Two ways to get to the green here. A bunker cuts up the middle, diviging the ground into two. On each of those lands, there is a fairway. Both of them point to the green. The green here is pretty small, and is countered by bunkers in both sides.

1st shot

You can drive to either fairway, but I picked the left one because it extends longer, and it gives you more room for errors. 1W as always.

2nd shot

With 170 yards (take or give 10 yards), use a 5I.

Hole 8 - 398 Yards - Par 4

A dog leg going from the right to the left, only with the fairway cutted up in pieces (5). A bunker shields the green. A fairly easy hole overall as long you hit the fairway.

1st shot

1W, it should you on the third fairway.

2nd shot

Some trees might be on your way. If so, use a 3W or 4W because it gives you enough height to clear over them. If you do not think the trees are a problem, you may use a 1W, if needed.

Chipping

I found myself short of the green a lot here, usually by 40 yards or so. Use a SW here, with its maximum.

Hole 9 - 186 Yards - Par 3

There's nothing but water around the green. 185 yards is all that is between you and the green.

1st shot

3I is perfect here. Try to use about 90% of the gauge, though. Using 100% will probably get you to the small rough in the back.

Hole 10 - 331 Yards - Par 4

The green is directly north of you, but you have to follow the fairway going to the right to reach the green.

1st shot

1W is not recommended because it will probably lead you to a spot that has trees on the way. Instead, use a 3W and hit along the fairway to the NW.

2nd shot - Should be about 185 left to the pin. 3I is ideal here, but there is a well-positioned bunker so use a 1I, with about 90~95% of its power.

Hole 11 - 498 Yards - Par 5

Big one! You have to travel over three bunkers to reach your first fairway and follow it to the next fairway, over a bunker to find the green. There is an island with a fairway to the left that could provide you a shortcut, but that is too risky.

1st shot

No problem, just go over the bunkers with your 1W.

2nd shot

Use a 4I and aim for the upper right part of the first fairway. You should end up just before the bunker, but well away from the trees to the right. This way, you have a good view of the green.

3rd shot

Should be approximately 220 yards left. Use a 4W, or a 3W if there's some wind against you.

Hole 12 - 454 Yards - Par 4

Should be Par 5 here. A river divided the bottom fairway from the top one. You want to reach the top fairway but the river can easily swallow your ball up if you are not perfect enough. Then there's a tough drive to the green, which is protected by FOUR bunkers! A hell hole.

1st shot

With the wind behind you, do a super shot (perfect power, perfect accuracy) to get over the river. If you did not do a perfect shot, then you will probably end up in the river. If there is wind AGAINST you, then forget about going over the river. just follow the bottom fairway to the right.

2nd shot

If you made successfully across the stream, you should have about 200 yards left. use a 3I. If you opted to go to the bottom fairway. try you best with a 1W.

Hole 13 - 147 Yards - Par 3

No fairways here. A green is surrounded by three bunkers... Two of them are easily avoided, but if you go too far, you might get into the third. Aim for the bottom of the green.

1st shot

7I is good enough. 6I might be a bit extreme, but if the flag is in the back of the green, you ought do 6I then.

Hole 14 - 451 Yards - Par 4

A fairway goes to the right, very easily accessible and is able to reach the green. Beyond the waters lies a fairway that is even closer to the green, but it is so far away that you have a better chance of making it to the water than getting there. The green is bordered to the north by water, and some trees surrounds the other 3 sides.

1st shot

Take the safe path and use a 1W to drive up the right fairway.

2nd shot

Use a 3W to get to the hole. Make sure you use its full power because if you come short, you would hit some trees front of the green.

Hole 15 - 394 Yards - Par 4

Again, there are two fairways leading to the same green. The left side has a straight fairway with some trees on each side. The right-side fairway has a more clear view to the green, but there is a bunker to the right of it.

1st shot

Take a Super Shot with your 1W to the right.

2nd shot

If you have about 190 yards left, use a 1I (210 yards) because there are some trees covering the base of the green, and you have to over-power over them. If there's 170 yards left... use 3I or 4I.

Putting

The green is divided into 2, a rarity. If your lie isn't on the same green as the pin, then you need to add a bit more power to your swing since the rough between the greens will slow your ball greatly.

Hole 16 - 232 Yards - Par 3

Several trees blocks your way to the right side of this par 3 green. Behind the green lies some water.

1st shot

You cannot go to the right of the green because the trees here forbid it. Even if the wind is going left, you have to make sure your ball would sail past the trees to the right. 3W will make it to the green.

Hole 17 - 500 Yards - Par 5

There are three fairways that dot the field. The first one is to the north of the tee box, and then there are two fairways, one on each side afterwards. Either one will give you a chance to shoot for the green. The green is surrounded by a lake and a bunker to the north.

1st shot

Use a 3W to reach the first fairway. 1W is too powerful here.

2nd shot

Left or right? Most definitely left. The right fairway has two batches of trees that might give you problems shooting for the green. The left fairway, however, has no obstacles en route the green. So sail over the lake with your 1W/3W.

3rd shot

170 yards left, use a 4I. If have 150 yards left, use a 6I.

Hole 18 - 429 Yards - Par 4

One of the toughest. The first fairway goes to NW, and it is surrounded mostly by trees except for one spot. That spot is a bunker and beyond that bunker is another fairway. On the end of that fairway lies the green. Behind two bunkers. Everything else is covered by trees. Whew.

1st shot

Aim for the spot below the bunker between the fairways. 1W or 3W.

2nd shot

If you are on the perfect spot below the bunker, you have a good view to the green, witha bout 210 yards left. Use a 4W here. Otherwise, just shoot the ball into the next fairway because there are too many trees. From there, go for the green.
