Mission Objectives
  • Neutralize tent camp.
  • Secure the Caves.
  • Reach extraction zone
  • X. Capture or defeat Papashvili
  • Capture: Unlocks Will Jacobs.
  • defeat: No Bonus.
Pre-Mission Reminder

Always bring a sniper into play. The Iron Dragon mission zone is large and the watchful eyes of a sniper can turn a potential ambush into quick, long range defeats. Always remember who is on what team and be ready to change by memory to the correct soldier when needed.

Drop Zone

Once you are ready to advance, take your team over the first hill and slow down at the top. Smell the Vodka? Below you lies a patch of trees infested with your first Russian contact. Take your sniper and get comfortable on the grass in the laying position. With slow and precise movements, seek out the three soldiers with the scope and remove them. Always remember to keep eyes not only on your radar, but also cast a gaze left and right while moving. These guys can blend in pretty easy.

Your Radar wants to direct you to the caves. Refuse. You must defeat most of Papa's troopers for him to surrender and you to score the bonus Ghost. there is no short road out for a Ghost Recon member.

Machine Gun Bunker

Keep your team moving West until you get the alert from your Sniper that there is a bunker ahead. The bunker is home to a Machine Gun trooper. If he catches wind of you, the thin plant life you are hiding behind does little more than provide salad with your smoked butt. Once again take the Sniper and earn Uncle Sam's weekly check.

Take a peek to your right. there is another patrol this time with three soldiers, one of whom also carries a machine gun. Before tossing lead, be aware that the second you fire on the group, hit or miss, there is another patrol to the West that will join them immediately. Snipe as many as you can, but be prepared to switch over to your rifle if the reinforcements get too close. You have six units to negate before you continue. Use the woods as cover and remember to stick to your position. do not try and rush them and risk your men. Draw them out into the open and drop them. Grenades are good for lowering the count but only toss them into clear areas. You do not want one to bounce off of a tree and land on your helmet, or worse, the Sniper!

All Eyes On You

After taking care of the opposing forces, run to the left side of the bunker, switch to your sniper and come out on the small hill overlooking a mountain. You see two small banks with a path between them. At this point hold your position. Old Papa has a crack shot sniper on the left near the sandbags who is just itching to take out your entire team. Problem is, he very easily can if you extend yourself here.

Watch for even the most subtle movements and try to take him out as soon as possible. If you lose track of him he hides and take shots at you from various positions. This guy is worth his weight so take care.

Remember to keep team two of your platoon following your Alpha group. You need them later so try to keep them at a safe distance, but close.

Yonder Mountains East

You may be feeling good after administering the Russian Sniper's lead vitamin for the day, but now is not the time to get lazy. As you move up the middle path where the sniper was hiding you come to find a small plateau. Patrolling this calm area are two, three man teams of scouts. They roam to and from the Tent Camp and the West Mountain Pass. According to when you arrive at the plateau they can be anywhere in between these points. Watch your radar and be prepared to act quickly. Take caution as they both carry grenade launchers and are pretty easily alerted to your presence. Take only one group at a time, and remember that you have high power weapons for a reason. Do not be afraid to toss a grenade to greet the scouts. Six Deaths and you are on your way. Return to the plateau for your next move.

Russians

Traveling to your northeast from the area you entered the plateau, you come across the Tent Village. Before you grab marshmallows and start removing your boots in favor of flip flops, remember that this is the same Tent Camp from Objective 1. AKA the one you are supposed to defeat everyone in. Now that all of the patrols are dead it is time to get close and personal to the campers. Move in slowly until you can see the details of the camp. (tent markings, an outhouse structure, etc) At this point drop the whole team to a crawl. There are four soldiers who walk the perimeter of the camp and three within the camp grounds two of which that carry a Machine Gun and Grenade Launcher for the last. You have a fair bit of experience with party crashing at this point and can end this occupation in a number of ways.

Bring in both teams for this objective to comfortably take the enemy down. Use positioning to confuse and flank the campers.

The Long Run

Move in on the caves and the charming Papashvili. Getting to those caves is your next chore. Run beside the northern border of the map and keep the mountains to your side for cover.

Watch the rockline carefully as you run for enemies. When any show up, scout the area and deal with them, but return to the mountain path. there is a lone soldier who has a "special" personality trait. He does not react to gunfire. He can't hear it in the least. Pepper the trees near him and he just stands void. Some argue that his AI is buggy and that is why he plays mongo, but my own theory involves a walkman, some earbuds and the "Pump up the Volume" soundtrack.

You can take mongo out at any time, but it is best to eliminate all the others first as they WILL react to gunfire. When you come back to plug him, wait for a few seconds as his once hidden partner will show up for his turn to be shot.

Keep moving until you spot a small plains area and beyond that, the entrance to Papa's cave. There is another three man patrol in the plains area and are sitting ducks for some well placed sniper fire. Once they fall, make for the cave.

Cave Casa

To the West lies a small crack in the rock, and to the East, a larger more formal entrance. Both lead into the cave system and both hold one outside sentry as well as two solders inside each path.

If you prefer to stealth the caves prepare for a long wait as you must draw each enemy to the outside and pluck them from a distance.Take out the outside guards and lob a grenade into the main entrance, then the West entrance.

Strap on your night vision and enter the main East entrance. The grenades should have made putty from most of the inside soldiers, but keep keen and slow on entry in case one is in waiting. Very carefully navigate the caves and always double check a room before entry. You'll find Papashvili drawing his grocery list on a mission board.

To get the bonus Ghost he has to be alive.

Set An Extra Plate

With Pop's in tow it is time to get back to the Drop Zone. There are only a few enemies left, so be careful and this can be a near perfect mission. Most of the time a team of four will be waiting by the Drop Zone for one last chance to drop the American Pigs. Make your way back down the Western pass being mindful of any missed or hiding troops. When you near the DZ, take out the last forces and punch the clock.
