Al-Saghira
Egyptian Temple, Al-Saghira, Valley Of The Kings, Egypt
The El-Saghira Egyptian Temple, more commonly known by its mission select name Egyptian, is the final bonus mission in GoldenEye 007. This mission can only be unlocked by completing all previous levels, including Aztec, on 00 Agent (which is NOT a small feat). Unlike Aztec, this level is not based on a specific Bond film, although its general appearance is no doubt modelled after the Egyptian scenes in The Spy Who Loved Me; instead it features a variety of elements taken from various classic Bond films in the 1970s merged into a plot designed to follow on from some of those movies. The map features a layout that suggests it may have been designed for multiplayer and later adapted to solo. It has no obvious start point and loops around on itself as all the multiplayer-only maps do. Bond recovers the Golden Gun here and must battle Baron Samedi.
The level includes a rather strange puzzle to recover the Golden Gun; in a room with a tiled floor, Bond must follow the correct path to the Golden Gun. Stepping on the incorrect tile, will render the Golden Gun inaccessible and result in four bulletproof Drone Guns activating, with the only option being to flee the room through the door to the far left of the room and re-entering to reset the puzzle.
It is not at all clear how the player is supposed to figure out the correct path of the puzzle, other than sheer trial and error.
Background
Excellent work, there, Bond! We have one final mission for you. And this is the last one; we promise. After this, you will get a well-deserved year in the Caribbean. Scaramanga has passed into legend as the deadliest assassin of all time. The current whereabouts of his golden gun are unknown.
You see, MI6 has received a message with the confirmed handwriting of Baron Samedi challenging you to a duel. Yes, we have eye-witness accounts that you defeated Samedi in Haiti years back, but this seems to be the real deal. Intelligence still can’t make heads or tails of this situation, but considering your recent track record, M feels confident that you can handle this with flying colors. We know nothing about this ancient temple in el-Saghira, or what Samedi could be planning there. Keep your wits about you, 007.
Objectives
- Recover the Golden Gun (Agent)
- Defeat Baron Samedi (Agent)
M Briefing
This is sinister, 007. We’ve received a message from someone claiming to be Baron Samedi, the voodoo sorcerer you crossed swords with back in Haiti. He claims to have the golden gun and he wants to meet you in the ancient el-Saghira temple in the Valley of the Kings. Obviously, it’s a trap, but as a double-0 agent you know what goes with the territory.
Q Branch
Keep your wits about you, 007. Remember, the golden gun is a powerful weapon, perhaps it could even defeat Samedi.
Moneypenny
Do you do voodoo, James?
Weapons
- PP7 Special Issue
ZMG (9mm)
- Hand Grenade
- Golden Gun - Found in a booby-trapped room, that needs to be followed in a specified path. Required in the mission and recommended to defeat Baron Samedi.
Baron Samedi dual-wields DD44 Dostoveis and appear to be enhanced with his black magic. They will fire like these properties:
- First encounter - DD44 Dostovei (normal)
- Second encounter - ZMG (9mm)
- Third encounter - Moonraker Laser
Body Armor
3 The three body armors are really not that hard to find. One is in the little alcove in the long hallway near the pool room. The second is through the door off of the Golden Gun room. The last is right next to the last Baron.
Enemies
- Russian Infantry
- Autoguns (Bulletproof in the mission)
- Baron Samedi (Boss)
Notes
The Frigate is a hostage situation. The hostages are dressed in green. You have to move quick and act fast and defeat quickly to save the hostages. If you wait too long, you will lose that hostage. On Agent, 2 hostages have to escape, 4 on Secret Agent, and 5 on 00 Agent. There are a total of 7 hostages being held captive.
Multiplayer
Egyptian is one of the five solo stages included in GoldenEye's multiplayer. Oddly enough, the map is large but is limited to two players.
Somehow a resurrected Haitian sorcerer has gotten his hands on Scaramanga’s infamous Golden Gun, and he now wishes to duel you in Egypt. This all sounds a little unusual, but it’s time do get down to business. From the start, stick to your right and ignore the enemies. They are infinite here, too. Dispatch the tailgaters as you make your way to the next room of pillars. Run to the right and go up the stairs.
In this room will be Scaramanga’s Shrine. Notice the squares on the floor. The idea here is that you have to walk a specific path on this floor or the drone guns will go online and it will be lights out for you. In the center of the room is the god-forsaken Golden Gun. This will be instrumental is disposing of Samedi. Here is the proper path for this shrine.
- Step onto the first square in front of you in this room.
- Step to the left two spaces. This will put you in the corner.
- Step forward two. You will be two spaces away from a drone gun.
- Step to the right three spaces. You will be one away from the wall.
- Step two spaces forward. Kitty-corner from another drone gun.
- Step left one.
- Step forward one.
- Step left one. You will be right next to the drone gun again.
- Step forward two spaces.
- Step right one space. You will be able to grab the most powerful handgun ever made: the Golden Gun, capable of defeating any person with one shot. The drone gun will not activate now, so walk out to the left freely. Drop down. It’s time to defeat a voodoo master.

Nab the Body Armor here. Open the hatch and aim down. defeat the soldiers here before you fall right in front of them. Take care of all four enemies here, and walk forward. In the next piece of the temple, there will be two rows of three pillars. Baron Samedi will appear here. Shoot him with the Golden Gun to make him disappear in one hit, or take your time with another weapon. Once you defeat him, he will dissipate into the collective creepiness of this place and his echoing laugh will be heard from all directions. You have to defeat him two more times to win. From here, take the hallway to the left.
There will be a plethora of guards, so don’t dally and defeat only those in your way. On your left will be your starting point, as well as your second duel with Baron Samedi. defeat him again with any weapon you like. As long as he does not defeat you, you will cause him to disintegrate into the atmosphere, chuckling the whole way. The skies will darken and visibility will be cut. Walk forward and then right, like before. This time, take a right before the stairs and head down. This leads to an underground tunnel that is (relatively) safe from intruders. Make your way across the water pool and up the stairs. Past here will be your third and final duel with Samedi. Don’t be intimidated by his laser guns. You have a gold gun. Finish him off and send him to the great beyond.
