St. Petersburg - Walkthrough

GoldenEye 007 #5

St. Petersburg

Statue Park, St. Petersburg

The Statue Park in St. Petersburg, commonly called by its short name, Statue, is Goldeneye 007's tenth mission. It is a labyrinth of statues, monuments, and other fallen remains of the Soviet Union, along with other debris, such as shipping containers. Bond must first find and meet ex-KGB agent Valentin Zukovsky here, then confront the head of Janus under a statue of Lenin. After the confrontation, he must locate the stolen Pirate helicopter and rescue Natalya before it explodes. His last objective is to recover the helicopter's flight recorder, which is thrown a short distance into the park from the explosion.

Background

Statue Park, St. Petersburg, USSR.Following the Severnaya incident, MI6 has lost track of the Pirate helicopter. Presumably the bugging device has been located and destroyed. Natalya Simonova, who returned to the St. Petersburg against our advice, has gone missing. We can only assume that she has been abducted by the Janus syndicate in a belated attempt to cover their tracks.

Objectives
  1. Contact Valentin (Agent)
    • Bond meets with Valentin in a boxcar.
    • Valentin: Good evening, Mr. Bond. These are strange times.
    • Bond: With an ex-KGB agent meeting an M16 operative in the middle of St. Petersburg?
    • Valentin: Ha! I never thought I'd find myself helping you, but things have changed in Russia. Janus will meet you by Lenin's statue. Beware him, he is a Lienz Cossack traitor. I must leave - the guards are out in force and I fear they may mistake me for a spy!
  2. Confront and Unmask Janus (Agent)
    • Bond goes to Lenin's statue after meeting Valentin. Janus soon comes out.
    • Janus: Good evening, 007. Put the gun away. it is insulting to think I haven't anticipated your every move.
    • Bond: Alec? you are Janus?
    • Janus: Yes, the M16 'hero', back from the dead.
    • Bond: But why, Alec? I trusted you.
    • Janus: Trust can be misplaced, James. My parents trusted the British government. They were betrayed with all the other Lienz Cossacks. I will have my revenge.
    • Bond: What have you done with Natalya?
    • Janus: The girl? I've left her with the Pirate helicopter near the park gates. We're finished with them. I have the Goldeneye firing key. By the way, the helicopter's rigged to blow in 3 minutes. I doubt she will survive.
  3. Locate the Pirate Helicopter (Agent)
  4. Rescue Natalya (Agent)
    • Bond runs to the helicopter and finds Natalya, unconscious.
    • Bond: Natalya! Quickly, this way! The helicopter's about to explode.
    • Helicopter explodes.
    • Bond: I have to find the helicopter flight recorder. Wait for me at the gates.
  5. Find the Flight Recorder (Agent)
    • After finding the flight recorder, Bond returns to see Natalya being held captive once more, with an unfamiliar face leading the pack.
    • Mishkin: Ah, Mr. Bond, I see you have taken it upon yourself to liven up the nightlife in St. Petersburg. Blowing up helicopters, shooting guards - quite a jolly little soiree. Well, it is time to stop, before any more people get hurt. I'd like to ask you and Miss Simonova some questions about the Severnaya incident. Perhaps you'd like to lead the way to Military Intelligence HQ. there is a truck waiting outside. Come along, Mr. Bond, just step through the gates and we can clear up this misunderstanding.
M Briefing

The situation is critical, 007. Janus know we’re on to them and they’re taking control. We’re going to circumvent the usual channels on this one. I’ve arranged contact with an ex-KGB agent, Valentin Zukovsky, in Statue Park, St. Petersburg. He claims he can set up a meeting with Janus. Apparently, the head of Janus wants to see you in person. Frankly, I’m uneasy about this but it’s all we’ve got to go on.

Q Branch

No gizmos this time, old boy.

Moneypenny

Hmm, a damsel in distress. Just be careful with that chopper, James.

  • Janus Special Forces (will appear after Janus reveal)
  • Siberian Guard (St. Petersburg) (Mishkin's men.)
  • Dimitri Mishkin (if attacked, but instantly results in the mission's failure.)
  • Alec Trevelyan (is invulnerable in this mission)
Secrets

In a little alcove, near the area where Lenin's Statue (Where you meet Janus) you can find a hidden body armor. it is right behind that big statue of a hand.

Notes

The Statue is perhaps the easiest level to avoid getting defeated in. In the beginning, the Russian soldiers are no problem, just watch out for grenades. Shotgun blasts can be a real problem, but that body armor can take care of that. Be sure to learn your way around the park, losing your way makes it easier for the guards to get you!

Statue Park, St. Petersburg. Finally! A no-stealth level. Mainly because nothing here is stealthy to use but unarmed. But that will not work well for you. Start by running down over the hill and to the anchor statue, where 2-4 enemies will be. Ignore them and keep strafe-running past them. This is the best technique, outrunning the enemies.

Go to the right of the giant block next to the anchor and continue. Go up over the mini hill and under the giant CCCP letters. Stay to the left side of this next area and go under the thinner letter blocks. See that big crate like thing that is grey? This is our landmark. Run past it and go through the little space between the broken pillars and the landmark. You cut a corner of the area and see another crate. This one is red.

Enter the backside of the crate to see Valentin! Walk up to him to talk. Here is a tip: If you strafe left and right in front of him, he will follow you backwards. So lure him outside and as far up the hill to the left as you can. After it says "Objective Complete", immediately run up the hill.

Head on the right side of the broken tank. Run up past the glowing statue. Go right and in the next area. Here, go inbetween the pillar and the block that is laying horizontal across two other ones. Run forward and turn right, going up the hill to the giant statue with the guy raising his hand. Shoot the statue several times.

Turn around. Sometimes the normal greenish enemies come. Shoot them, but in the shadows of the block gaps, a bunch of men in black emerge. Put your gun away, and do not shoot. Do not take the gun out either.

The leader (Janus) will talk to you about how MI6 is cutting their budget. Bond then realizes that Janus is 006, Alec Trevelyan! As soon as the objective is complete, run towards him, gun raised. Then ignore him and the guards and run back to the beginning.

Directions to the beginning are as follows

  • Run to the right of the block that Alec was standing near. Run inbetween the blocks in front of you, then go left and then another right. You should see the narrow opening to this area here. Go through it. Head past the glowing statue and up the hill behind the tank. We see Valentine's crate.
  • Go past this and up the hill through the small gap we went through before. Past the grey crate. Follow the brown path left and back up the giant hill. Stay close to the fence after the second words statue.
  • Run over to the Helicopter and a proximity fuse triggers. Run away from the chopper and Natalya will get up and follow. Stand near the edge of the slope (at the top) and wait for it to blow. Bond then says he must find the Black Box for the copter.
  • Go down the slope and search the rubble here for an orange box. It may take a little while, or it might be easy. But it is always around the first little bit of the level. Since it is orange, it is easy to see. (I thought a BLACK box would be BLACK!)
  • Go up the hill after you have it and past the wreckage. Oh no! Russian Soldiers here! Ignore them and go out the gate ahead of you to end the mission.
Trivia
  • Statue Park in the game was inspired by a scene in the film, which in turn was inspired by Fallen Monument Park in Moscow.
  • This level is notorious for its dark Distance Fog.
  • Be very careful fighting the Janus Special Forces upon searching for Natalya and the Flight Recorder, as they shoot their Automatic Shotguns faster than the player and inflict greater damage than a hit from the Moonraker Laser in Aztec regardless of range, proving hazardous in higher difficulties. It is recommended getting the Body Armor first.
  • Statue has a complete multiplayer setup in the final version of the game, but the level is not available to play normally and must be accessed through a cheating device. The level suffers from severe slowdown and numerous blackouts in multiplayer, even when limited to two players. It is speculated that Statue was cut due to its dark atmosphere and inability to close off any part of the level to make it smaller for multiplayer. The level also suffers from lags and blackouts while playing; the portalling can be clearly seen, even through the fog.
  • Through a glitch, if the player drops a Grenade immediately before walking through the gates after finishing the objectives, the cutscene will play, except Mishkin, his guards, and Natalya will be blown up midway through and Bond will continue walking unharmed.

GRU Military Intelligence Military Archives, St. Petersburg

The GRU Military Intelligence Archives can both be played in solo mission or multiplayer. In this mission, Bond has to escape his interrogation, find Natalya and get the Helicopter's Blackbox. Bond is given the Watch Magnet Attract here, like in the Bunker 2 Mission, however, it is absolutely not necessary to use it, for example, to get the weapon and the clip from the table, because it can just be picked up when you touch the desk. Furthermore, Watch Magnet Attract cannot glitchy get the Black Box out of the safe, and this item may just become unnoticed, because of the reasons explained earlier.

After being arrested by GRU in "Statue Park," Bond and Natalya are taken to the military archives building. Bond is separated and put in a room while being interrogated by Mishkin's men. Bond may need to defeat them and escape the room, then either search for Natalya, who is held elsewhere in the building or talk to the Defense Minister of Russia himself, before doing so. He then can ask for the helicopter's blackbox proving Trevelyan's (former agent 006, then Janus Crime Syndicate leader) involvement in the Severnaya Incident. Bond can then break a window in the library, so he and Natalya can escape.

Background

Military Archives, St. Petersburg.Captured again by the Russians, Bond must escape their prison.

Objectives
  1. Escape from the Interrogation Room (Agent)
  2. Find Natalya (Agent)
  3. Recover the Helicopter Flight Recorder (Secret Agent)
  4. Escape with Natalya (Agent)
M Briefing

Again? Captured again? I hope you can defend your performance, 007, because there is not a lawyer in the land who'd take on the case. Your only chane is to speak directly to Defense Minister Mishkin. he is a reasonable man, for a member of the Politburo. Failure is not an option, Bond.

Q Branch

Up to you to get out of this one, 007. I cannot hold your hand all the time. By the way, get that flight recorder for me, would you? Thanks.

Moneypenny

Banged up again, James? You know what it is like to be trapped behind a desk, and I'm off out to the theater with a gentleman tonight.

Notes

The Archives is basically a big maze. If Natalya ever says "I'm scared, I'm getting out of here," then run all the way up to the attic, because that is where she usually goes to hide. The attic is easy to find, just go up!

The level starts with Bond being asked questions by two armed guards in a locked room.

Guard: So Mr. Bond, what do you know about the theft of the Goldeneye?

Bond: Ourumov stole it - he is a traitor.

Guard: Nonsense, Mr. Bond. General Ourumov is a hero of the Soviet Union.

Bond: Perhaps, he was once, but he has betrayed you.

Guard: All lies, Mr. Bond. You are nothing but a terrorist. You will be executed along with that foolish girl.

Bond: Natalya has done nothing wrong. She knows what happened at Severnaya.

Guard: Really? Well, we shall have to ask her about that. I'm sure she can be persuaded to answer our questions more fully.

[A guard walks into the room.]

New Guard: New orders from General Ourumov. defeat the spy at once!

[Bond defeats them and eventually seeks out Mishkin.]

Mishkin: It appears you were correct, Mr. Bond. General Ourumov is our traitor.

Bond: Even trusted friends are capable of betrayal.

Mishkin: A costly lesson. Do you need the black box from the stolen helicopter?

Bond: Yes, it proves that Janus was involved in the Severnaya incident.

Mishkin: It is in the safe. I must inform the Politburo of Ourumov's deceit. Good-bye, Mr. Bond.

[Bond then finds Natalya, and shoots her captors.]

Natalya: I'm scared, I'm getting out of here.

[Bond finds Natalya in one of the roof sections of the building.]

Natalya: James!

[The two escape together, jumping out a window.]

Military Archives, St. Petersburg.A gun and a single round of ammo rest on a table in front of you. Pick up the weapon and the ammo quickly so that you are armed, and press A to switch over. If you are super quick, you can fire on the two Russian thugs before they even get a shot off. Pick up the guards's guns and a door key. Switch to the newfound DD44. Many soldiers flood to the doorway. Shoot the first two or three guys who show up at the door, and then run straight out. This takes some practice, and after several tries you should get it. you will take a little damage, too. Whatever you do, do not stand around. The longer you stay in there, the less chance you have to escape. After about three or four guys appear, charge the door, head straight to the very next door, about four feet away. Open it and plug whomever is in your way. Run and keep going.

you are in a warehouse room full of crates and ammo. In the center is body armor. Run straight, grab it, and go the far side of the room, and then exit. Stand at the bottom of the stairs our of harm's way. The guys who were chasing you will eventually come. You should have added to your arsenal a Klobb and a KF7 Soviet. We like the Soviet since it is quieter in short bursts, and a little more accurate. When they arrive, dust them and then wait. They come in waves. A few guys might come down the stairs as well. Keep an eye on the staircase, too. You can do this whole operation from the top of the stairs as well, but it does not work as well.

Ascend the stairs, open a door. There are three ways to go. To your right is one to two soldiers. Take an immediate left down another hallway, defeat one soldier and duck behind come crates. Stand up, defeat the second guy in front of you and then run in to the main chamber (or you can turn around and defeat the guys behind you). But again, the trick is to be fast, not to wait until winter comes. After passing through the door at the hallway's end, you will see you are in the main library.

Turn left and enter a door (there is a staircase to your left but do not take it). More guards will arrive. Instead of taking those stairs (which lead to the attic), hug the wall to your right, and run to the middle of that room where a set of double doors is. To the right is a smaller single door. Open it. Natalya will be in there with two to three armed KGB members. Two to your right, one with Natalya on the left. do not shoot her or the guy near her. If there are three guards, one has a grenade and he may set it off. Shoot the KGBs as fast as possible to the right but stay away from them.

Natalya may try to escape. If she does, she may get caught, and she will end up in a room near the beginning of the level as a hostage again. If not, she will hide in the attic. The way to calm her is to instantly defeat the guards in that room. Quickly shoot the guy who held Natalya and then quickly move into the corner of the room where the two guys were and reload. There you will fend off as many as 12 soldiers. The battle will eventually end.

Escape through the door you came through, careful to eliminate anyone else around, and quietly. Before you get Natalya (or is she is with you), make a B line across the big room and to the left. A set of double doors opens directly to the stairs that descend to the main room floor. Descend the stairs, and walk across the length of the floor to a doorway (to the left). Open it, take an immediate left again and open the second door. There may be guards to your right. If so, shoot them, quiet like.

you will be in the corner of another library type room. To your immediate right is another door; open it. you will appear in a hallway with shining light. Run to its end, take a right, and enter the door. there is a guy in black who looks like a bad guy, but is not. do not shoot him! you will meet Mishkin, who will have a discussion with you and then hand over the safe key. The safe is right behind him. Open it with the key and remove the black box inside. If Natalya is not with you, retrace your steps to the attic. If she is not there, she was captured again, and you need to find her.

Go to the observation deck above the main floor by ascending the steps you originally took. On the wall opposing you are two doors. Take this left door into a hallway. At the far end is where she is being held captive. Empty rooms should appear on your left (and occasionally one or two of them have soldiers in them). If you see a soldier, defeat him quietly with one shot. When you get to the room, there are three men in thick dark coats and Natalya. defeat them all to escape that room. (That room also has a secret door. Directly opposite the door is a wall. Press B to open it.)

Once you have found her, head back to the library observation deck. Once you have made it into that big area on the second floor, shoot out any one of the windows and jump through.

Trivia
  • At the beginning of the mission, there are white cabinets in the interrogation room. The one on the right drops roughly twenty-eight pistol rounds when destroyed, while the left drops nothing.
  • Natalya can be defeated in the ending cinematic. If her body disappears before the cinematic ends, the mission will fail.
  • The level works like Bunker 2, in that as soon as stealth is broken enemies will start producing copies of themselves, and will continue doing so until the original enemy is defeated.
  • Archives features two secret hallways, one between the small room at the top of the staircase and the long hall opposite, and the other between the two doors into the large main room.
  • Mishkin is defeated in the movie here, but it is up to the player in the game.
  • When going into Natalya's interrogation room, if you look up you will see a large fan with a dark blue sky not seen in Streets or Depot.
  • It is possible to see that there is nothing outside the archives through the window in Bond's interrogation room.
  • Like Facility and Caverns, the multiplayer version of Archives draws the entire Archives singleplayer map but renders around half of the level inaccessible with a locked door. Using a cheating device, it is possible to configure a weapon to destroy doors and access the rest of the map; everything is present, but there are no weapon spawns or ammo crates in the normally inaccessible parts of the level.

Streets, St. Petersburg

The St. Petersburg Streets is the twelfth level of the game. The Streets come after Natalya and James break out of the GRU Military Intelligence Archives headquarters. The Streets is a maze like level that has two routes to take; a long route, and a short route. The surroundings are very dull. The same buildings appear throughout the level, and it has no background as seen when you finish the level. During the level, you also have to talk to ex-KGB Agent Valentin Zukovsky. He slows down General Ourumov, giving you an extra five minutes to finish the level. In the beginning, you also have the choice to take the tank, or go on foot. Going in the tank would be easier, but do not run over the civilians. On foot can be quick, but beware the Russian Soldiers with Rocket Launchers. When finishing the level, James will walk down the road with cars blowing up behind him.

Background

Streets, St. Petersburg. After escaping KGB interrogation at the military archives, Natalya has been recaptured by General Ourumov. She is being taken by car to the Janus operations base in St. Petersburg.

Objectives
  1. Contact Valentin (Secret Agent)
    • Bond meets up with Valentin in a run-down tenament house.
    • Valenin: Ah, Mr. Bond, I see you have eluded the clutches of military intelligence.
    • Bond: Yes, but General Ourumov has taken Natalya!
    • Valentin: I saw the car, he is taking the girl to a disused military depot not far from here. The Janus base is there. A simple phone call and my men will delay them.
    • Bond: What's in it for you, Valentin?
    • Valentin: Business is business, Mr. Bond. I like to see my competitors out of action.
  2. Pursue Ourumov and Natalya (Agent)
  3. Minimize Civilian Casualties (Agent)
M Briefing

Get after them, 007! We cannot afford to let the trail go cold and the chances are they will lead you straight to Trevelyan. Keep a clear head though, any civilian casualties on the streets of St. Petersburg could create an unfortunate international incident. We believe that Valentin Zukovsky is still in the area - he may be able to help you.

Q Branch

No gadgets this time, 007. Though you should be on the lookout for hardware the Russians may have left lying around. Keys in the ignition and all that, old chap.

Moneypenny

I do not think she is worth the trouble, James. Perhaps you should be looking closer to home for a reliable woman?

Streets, St. Petersburg. In the easy level, you simply have to reach the end in your tank. In the medium and hard levels, there is a cool, but weird extra objective, to meet with Valentin. To meet with Valentine, run forward and lean left around the corner. defeat the three soldiers coming your way. do not get hit, these guys aren't that good and strafing will keep them from missing. Or simply defeat one and let the rest come to you. Pick up their KF7 Soviets. Head toward the tank and to the left of the jeep is a guard who's taking shots at you. defeat him and then turn around and in the corner is another one. defeat him, too. A third and final soldier will attack from behind a gate. it is pretty easy to figure out what to do with him.

What next? In the medium level, you must make contact with Valentin first, and then jump in the tank. In the easy level, there is no need to speak with Valentin, so jump in. For the medium and hard players, walk out of the gate and take a left down a narrow alley. Follow the alley, defeating about a half dozen stray soldiers along the way. do not get hit, you need all the health you can get. Follow the road and a wide, long street with about four soldiers will appear. defeat them and take notice of the shots coming from the far building. If you walk all the way to the end, look up close. You can see soldiers in the rooms and you can jump through a few of the windows and defeat these guys if you want. do not bother with these guys. there is a door that clearly means for you to enter into it on the building to your left (if you didn't enter the far building). Go in, take a left, and you will see Valentin in a small room there. Talk with him.

Valentin will extend the time you have to rescue Natalya, but only if you listen to him. Walk around Valentin so that you are facing the door. After Valentin talks to you, he will run back to the tank. Follow the streets back to the tank and get in the tank as soon as possible. A message will flash on the screen telling you that Valentin has contacted his friends, and you will receive double the time you started off with, 5 minutes.

In the tank, the fastest path out is as follows. Drive out the gates, turn right at the fork, and follow the street for a few blocks, turning when it does, until you reach the next intersection. Go straight and you will hopefully run over several enemies (and hear their yelps of crushing pain). A mixture of civilians and military roam around the streets, so be careful. Civilians wear red and the enemies wears green. Switch to the Soviet occasionally because it is more effective than shooting tanks shots at everything. Troops are faster and can make better turns than you, and your cannon just cannot hit them at close range. You can also turn the head of the tank as well.

At the next intersection, take a left and blow up a few cars from a distance. Entering an explosion will cause serious loss of health. (In at least two instances, you will need to blow them up to clear the road.) Beware of the path of blue land mines that a civilian is running around. Shoot one cannon shot into the patch and they will all set each other off. When the explosions finish, drive through. At the next intersection, go left, then the next right. Next you will see several troops shooting at you, so shoot them or crush them, whatever seems most cruel. you will know when you have reached the end: There are two cars parked in front of an opening of the street. Make it there alive, and you have completed the level.

Trivia
  • Originally, you were supposed to see Ourumov's black car driving away, sitting outside of the Archives.
  • Natalya is not seen present in the beginning, even though she was with Bond when the escape from Archives was accomplished. She may have ran faster than Bond out of the archives, and as Bond got a little bit slowed down, she was taken by Ourumov in his vehicle.
  • Ourumov, his black car and Natalya are never seen in this level.
  • The similar tank from the Service Runway appears in this level.
  • All the civilians in this level have the same clothing. There were supposed to be different clothed civilians, as well as female civilians, but they were never implemented in the final version of GoldenEye 007, and some of them are seen in the ending's credits or the multiplayer mode.
  • The jeeps and civilian cars in streets appear to be like roadblocks.
  • The jeep at the very end, will always explode in the ending cutscene.
  • The only enemies in this level are the Russian Soldiers.
  • This is the final level where the KF7 Soviet is usable.

Depot, St. Petersburg

Depot is the 13th mission in GoldenEye 007. It is located at a disused Military Depot in St. Petersburg. The depot is filled with disused hangars and other buildings, small abandoned railway stations and is covered in gloom. The depot has the Janus Marine guards patrolling the area, and is essentially one of their base of operations. Their equipment and items are secreted in the depot's hangars and buildings. The Janus Marines use the D5K Deutsche, sometimes a dual combination. The surrounding is dark, and the sky is a blue/green and black. The Depot uses a black Distance Fog, making it difficult to see very far. Bond's main objective in the depot is to find Alec Trevelyan's converted missile train, which is at the very end of the level. On difficulties higher than Agent, you must find the safe key, get the aircraft plans, destroy the computer network, and destroy the illegal arms cache. Upon completing all of this, Bond needs to enter Trevelyan's converted missile train to complete the mission.

Background

Depot, St. Petersburg. The Janus operations base in St. Petersburg is located in a disused military rail depot. From here the crime syndicate coordinates illegal arms deals, international terrorism and extortion.

Objectives
  1. Destroy the Illegal Arms Cache (00 Agent)
  2. Destroy the Computer Network (Secret Agent)
  3. Obtain the Safe Key (Secret Agent)
  4. Recover the Helicopter Blueprints (Secret Agent)
  5. Locate Trevelyan’s Train (Agent)
M Briefing

Quite a nest of vipers, 007 – do your best to disrupt the Janus operations. We’d be particularly interested if you could retrieve the blueprints for a modified version of the stealth helicopter, it seems they may be thinking of going into production. We also believe that Ourumov has taken Natalya to Trevelyan’s converted missile train in the depot. You need to be on that train when it leaves.

Q Branch

They’ve got a pretty sophisticated computer network hidden away somewhere in that depot, 007. Be a good chap and shut it down for them. Oh, and don’t forget to blow up the Janus arms cache – I’m just sorry I can’t be there myself to enjoy the fireworks.

Moneypenny

Don’t miss your train, James.

Depot, St. Petersburg. In order to beat the Agent 00 in this level, you must first find and destroy the illegal arms cache. Instead of running to the computer network area straight off, take a right where you would have taken a left, and run to the second warehouse on the right. defeat off the three to four guys there and then pick up the Rocket Launcher! Yeshh, baby! Then destroy the cache from up on the bridge using a rocket, but do not use the second one. Finish off the cache with any other gun. (Save the other rocket for the computer network auto gun). Once this objective has been completed, then stay cool — and hidden — once you open the warehouse door. Enemies will be crawling on all sides. Once the coast is relatively clear, head up to the computer network and follow the rest of the guide.

The first goal is to get bigger weapons quick. In the easy mode, go to the far all, and behind a crate on the right is armor. Three crates past that on the left is your first Russian victim. Take his gun, a D5K Duetsche. In the medium level, you need to obtain a safe key and blow up some computers. In the easy level, you simply have to find the train. Back up a few steps after the first defeat, and at the opening take a left and start running. Skim the left hand wall until you reach a double gate fence. Open it and go through. Skim the left wall, to keep out of site. At the end of the path is a garage with a door, reading BXOII. Go to the far left side of the garage door, and angle your gun inside, then press B to open the garage. There are two guards. you will have perfect aim at one. defeat him and step back to the wall. The other will step into view. defeat him.

A large crate on your right will protect you from soldiers who'll run over fro the right when they hear the racket. Three to four other soldiers from inside the garage will appear. defeat them, and your right for more soldiers. A good place to couch yourself is in the crevice between the wall at your back and the crate on your right, which gives you a perfect angle of any newcomers. You can strafe left and right to see anyone who's coming from here. Try entering the room again as soon as the coast is clear (which will not be for long).

Wait for the garage door to close, keeping the bad guys outside. Shoot the remaining soldiers by peaking and leaning around the giant gray wall of crates between you and a large, mean automatic machine gun. This auto gun shoots non-stop and will defeat you within seconds. Once the soldiers all seem dead, play a little trick on the machine gun. Strafe to the right and let it see you and then quickly strafe to the left. It'll still be a second or so behind you. you will have time to aim, and unload a flurry of shots. Destroying this auto machine gun is hard, and you may die a few times in the process. Aim upward to defeat it. After it is dead, walk left and there may be one soldier remaining. Just be wary. You should be able to pick up a double D5K Deutsche. The far table on the left should have a safe key, so grab it, and then blow all of the computer equipment away. Shoot the big screen, too. Objective A and B should have been met for the medium and hard level.

Before you leave there are a bunch of soldiers waiting for you. So be smart. Open the door and lean out to defeat the trio of guys waiting for you. When the coast seems clear, run straight down the path, past that earlier gate on the right and keep going until you reach a big clearing. The clearing is noticeable because of the orange-ish pipe that runs form building to building overhead. At that point, turn left there and head straight.

There will be a few stray soldiers shooting at you so stay lean, mean, and run! Veer a bit to your left. you will go about 100 feet or so, until you pass under another orange pipe. you will see a white gate on your right and several graffiti-laden crates on your left. Pass through that area until a white building appears on your right. (in this area are at least two body vests and more soldiers hidden in between crates, but you may not really need the vests). Enter through the door on that building. Ascend the staircase and find the safe upstairs. Toggle to your safe key, choose it, press R, bottom C to duck, then press B and back up so that the door can open. Grab the train blueprints, having met objective C, and go out the nearest door.

This door leads to the train. Open it, descend the stairs, and run toward the far left garage door. Open it. There may be one or two guards on your right to meet you. defeat them. The train is right in front of you. Walk toward to the yellow vertical stripes and press B. At least two guards will be there. defeat them. you are in and the mission is done.

Trivia
  • It is dangerous to check every hangar in this level, as doing so, the enemies spawn in many quantities quickly. The best that can be done about this is that Bond needs to follow a certain path of only proper hangars (Only 2 - the one containing the mock computer room and the weapons storage.) Essentially, if this is done, Bond will not receive as much enemies.
  • When completing the Depot, you can either defeat the guards in the train yourself, or immediately go in and watch Bond defeat them in the cutscene. Sometimes however, this scene can glitch, and Bond will unintentionally start firing his weapon up to the ceiling of the train endlessly while looking in that direction (when using the Slow Animation cheat). As a result of this, this cutscene will be endless and it must be skipped manually. Bond will continue to shoot his weapon nonstop even after the train doors are closed.
  • The train in the Depot is much smaller in height than it is in the Train mission.
  • There are no crates in the train upon completion, however, they are in the aforementioned Train mission.
  • There is a hidden Rareware logo on the brick wall in front of Trevelyan's train. Rare is the main company behind GoldenEye 007.
  • In the illegal arms cache, the KF7 Soviet weapons have no ammo. However, if you equip the empty weapon and enter the train, the ending cutscene will feature Bond defeating the two guards with it (this can work with other empty guns with the All Guns cheat).
  • If you enter any of the hangars and close the door behind you, rather than opening the door and following you, the Janus Marines will take up positions outside and wait for Bond to completely open the hangar door, before firing upon him.
  • You can outrun ducking Janus Marines that shoot their weapons, and while they are in this stance, they will endlessly continue to shoot while looking in the opposite direction. This appears to be a glitch.

Train, St. Petersburg

The Converted Missile Train is part of the St. Petersburg stretch of levels. It is the last before Natalya Simonova and James Bond find-out that Boris and The Antenna Cradle for GoldenEye is in Cuba. The missile train level is linear. You start in the back of the train, and work your way forward. The Janus Marine have D5K Deutsche guns in the beginning, but when the green rooms come around, they are equipped with ZMG (9mm)s. After breaking all the brake systems, two guards will appear from the room that Alec Trevelyan, Xenia Onatopp, and General Ourumov are in. When Bond defeats them, one of them may drop a key. This unlocks the door to them. Once there, Bond must act quick before Natalya is executed by General Ourumov.

Background

Train, St. Petersburg. The leader of Janus, Alec Trevelyan, is holding Natalya hostage on his armored train.

Objectives
  1. Destroy the Brake Units (Agent)
  2. Rescue Natalya (Agent)
    • Bond finds Natalya being held at gunpoint by Ourumov. Trevelyan and Xenia are also present.
    • Trevelyan: James, what an unpleasant surprise. Do come in.
that is close enough! Two targets. Time for one shot.
      The girl or the mission?
    • Bond shoots Ourumov
    • Trevelyan: you will never win, James.
    • An armored door then separates James and Natalya from the other two and the windows become blocked, too. A panel on the floor is sealed, but James can open it.
    • Trevelyan: Good luck with the floor, James. It shouldn't take more than a minute.
    • Natalya gets on the computer as James works on the floor.
    • Natalya: Boris is still backing up his files. I can find out where they are going. he is in Cuba! If I just had time to crack his password. Got it. you are a slug-head, Boris.
  3. Locate Janus’s Secret Base (Secret Agent)
  4. Crack Boris’s Password (00 Agent)
  5. Escape to Safety (Agent)
M Briefing

We’ve lost experienced agents beore in hostage situations. Keep a clear head, 007, and dont get sidetracked settling old scores.

Q Branch

A train, 007, pretty simple. Destroy the braking units in each carriage and the emergency systems should bring it to a halt.

Weapons
  • PP7 Special Issue (given by default in the beginning of this mission, considering that Bond held it in the previous mission.)
  • DD44 Dostovei (held by Ourumov, Secreted on Secret Agent difficulty in one of the boxes.)
  • ZMG (9mm) (Held dual or single by Janus Special Forces.)
  • D5K Deutsche (Held mostly by Janus Marine, rarely by Janus Special Forces.)
  • RC-P90 (Agent difficulty only, secreted in a few boxes near the end of the train. Or, secreted in a few boxes in the beginning, as well.)
  • Watch Laser (given by default and is recommended to use to open the small locked grate/hatch on the floor to escape the death trap train. Can also be used against enemies, although, mostly up close, as it will not hit them from far.)
Secret weapon

On board the first train car in the Agent level, if you shoot your way all the way through and blast out the brake mechanism on the floor, try shooting the two wooden crates across the way from the brake box. Under the bottom crate is an RPC-90.

In the Secret Agent level, there is a DD44 n the same location, but there is nothing there in the 00 Agent level.

Important Items
  • Safe Key
  • Blueprints
Body Armor

There are 11 on Agent, 6 on Secret Agent, and none on 00 Agent.

Enemies
  • Janus Marine
  • Janus Special Forces
  • General Ourumov
  • Xenia Onatopp
  • Alec Trevelyan

Train, St. Petersburg. In the first train, there are two parts. You start off with a PP7. Use your site to knock off the guy on the far right, and the guy on the far left, using a crate to employ the leaning technique. After that reload, and stand straight out there and fire away. This first train is easy. Collect all of the ammo, and you are loaded with the D5K Duetsch. Before you leave the train, knock out the brake system to the right of the door. it is yellow and red and made of pipes, and has a gray box on top of it. They all look like this.

Train Car #2

There are more crates in the second train, so try to hide behind the gray, metal ones, because they will not blow up in your face. A man in a beret will be on your immediate right once you get to the gray box. Another enemy in a beret will be on your left just behind a crate or two. Strafe, shoot, strafe, shoot. Stay away from the crates that begin to get dark in color because they are about to blow. defeat the brake system at the end of the car.

Train Car #3

The third car is a passenger car with claustrophobic corridors lined in blue carpeting and doors that lead to bathrooms and smaller compartments (which only hold bad guys), and of course there is really no room at all to dodge gunfire. As soon as you open the door enemies are waiting for you. Stay near the entrance, picking them off as they come toward you. A few will hang back, so lean to the right and use your site to defeat them. On your left is a bathroom. Each car has one like this. As soon as you pass this room a soldier will step out of it. Step in front of it and then quickly back up and shoot him. You do not need to check the passenger areas in this car. Run to the front and blow up the brake box.

Train Car #4

The fourth car is lots of fun. Oh, yeah. Soldiers will enter the third car just after you blow the brake box, so just line them up for a bullet fest. Step up through the door and position yourself so that you can aim at them with the site and pick them off as they bottleneck. The brake on the fourth car is just to the left of the entry point. Open the bathroom, step inside for a good, safe shot at the brake box, and then step out again. Check all the passenger rooms. The second room contains two soldiers, and so does the fifth. Two guards are lined up at the very end, and they can hit when they hear you half way through the car. There are some timed, locked doors, and guards will emerge from them. Be smart, always check your rear.

In the next four, shorter, green rooms, there are more troops, but with better guns. Some of them are in the bathrooms as well. In the last of the green rooms, two servicemen provide you with a 9 mm ZMG, a super cool rapid fire gun. As soon as you defeat the last man in the four room, turn around because one of those earlier locked doors opens, and out comes sneaky Russian dudes. Be ready for them after the doors of the fourth green car open.

Train Car #5

Car number five is a gray girded car and the most complex of any of the cars. It has green walls and yellow sofas, along with brown tables in the middle of each room. To your right is the brake control. Do not shoot it just yet. One or two servicemen are in the hallway. Dust them. Shoot the control box. At least two more highly armed servicemen will appear. The best tip for this car is to simply stay just inside the entree door near the brake control and wait for them to come to you. Once you blow the box, objective A is met.

Train Car #6

Steel-gray/blue, Car six is your final destination. Destroy the final braking unit (objective a: complete) and the train will screech to a dead stop. Quickly find cover as two men with hats and double ZMG's will attempt to mow you down after the small shoot-out, collect the "Train Door Key" and open the door at the end of the hallway. Walk into the next room full of crates (there is nothing there in medium and hard, but in easy there is a body vest in the back) and switch to a single gun with a site. Enter the next car slowly. Natalya is captive and has a gun pointed at her head. Two soldiers are behind this pair. Just like in the park in St. Petersburg, walk slowly.

Trevelyan will tell when you are too close. This is a cake walk, if truth be told. Turn on your site, aim for his head, and take one shot. If you defeat him, automatic doors will shut you and Natalya in. Behind you and to the right is a white hatch. it is bolted to the floor. Toggle to your heaviest weapon first. A timer goes off, leaving you with about one minute to get out. Blast the hell out of the bolts until you can barely see them any more. Switch to your laser watch and melt each gray strip off one by one. You need to beat the clock by at least five seconds, otherwise you are toast (because Natalya has to get out too). Soldiers will be shooting at you from the right. Just run left, strafing left and right to avoid their shots. Natalya will follow you. Occasionally, she will get shot. Try not to run too far ahead of her to avoid this. you will have to find the secret base which is just ahead. you have completed all of your objectives.

***Addendum***

How to get Natalya out of the train without getting her defeated can be a terribly depressing experience.

defeating Ouromov

When you finally get to Ouromov, Natalya, Xenia, and Trevelyan, whip out your D5K Deutsche and defeat Ouromov by putting a single lead piece through his face. Quickly after, crouch down so that any shots from Trevelyan will be avoided.

Breaking Through the Hatch

Next, aim your D5K Deutsche at the hatch on the ground, and start picking off bits of the annoyingly strong metal latches that keep the hatch on. It makes it easier for you to burn them off with your laser watch. The disadvantage technique is that it is difficult to see the actual pieces. You are able to open up hatch with as little as 20 seconds left.

Cracking the Password, Locating the Base

Natalya will automatically start in on the computer in the attempt to achieve these two objectives. Keep an eye out for her computing messages. She needs to locate the secret base, which should happen first, and then Crack Boris' code, which will take the longest. Should you wait until the last second, or leave early? Natalya will follow you as soon as you leave the train, so do not leave early. It is best to wait about five seconds before the train blows, and then escape. Maybe four. Waiting any longer give or take a second, and Natalya will get blown up trying to escape.

Keeping Natalya (and yourself) Alive, Complete Mission

A bunch of trigger-happy henchmen will start shooting at you as soon as you leave the train. They will appear on your left. Before you leave the train, switch to the RP-P90, or in Secret Agent and 00 Agent, the two ZMGs. The trick here is to give Natalya enough space to get off the train so that when it explodes, she does not get catch the explosion. So, get off the train, turn left toward the enemies, shoot a few shots, and move all the way to the right and back a few steps — that will give her enough space to walk away (remember, Natalya will follow you wherever you go). Blast away at the enemies, making sure to hit the wooden, explosive boxes (which of course will scatter their body parts across the area) as well as the guys themselves. The trick is to be fast and shoot enough of them before they hit you or Natalya. If you1re slow, they will eventually hit Natalya. As soon as you think the coast is clear, then run in a zigzag fashion toward the front of the train, and — about 50 feet past it — if you and Natalya are still alive, you have beaten the mission.

Trivia
  • Train is the most linear level in the game, being effectively a completely straight line.
  • In the Disused Military Depot the Train appears to be much smaller in height, resembling the military train in the movie. In the Train level, however, it is a conventionally sized train, complete with with passenger cars.
  • At the end of the first carriage (The far end of the train/Head Wagon), there is a crate stacked on top of another on the left, which holds a different weapon depending on the difficulty. In Agent, there is an RC-P90; in Secret Agent, there is a DD44 Dostovei; on 00 Agent, the crate is empty.
  • When escaping from the Train, you can hear Trevelyan's and Xenia's helicopter taking off, but when you exit the Train, the doors for the helicopter to exit are opened, and no sign of a helicopter.
  • In Agent mode it is actually possible to laser through the hatch and exit the level before Ourumov can defeat Natalya. This will fail the mission on higher difficulties due to not completing the objectives, where you need to wait for Natalya to get Boris' location.
  • In 00 Agent Difficulty, two of the objectives are to have Natalya locate the Janus base in Cuba and crack Boris Grishenko's password. Oddly enough, she locates the base before cracking his password, which makes it somewhat pointless to crack the password afterwards. In the film, Natalya figured out Boris' password (with help of Bond), before locating the base.
  • The head wagon/end of the train (The Outside view of it), is probably one of the most oddest looking things in GoldenEye 007. It even has it is own photograph in the level/mission selection screen.
Glitches

Using glitches, it is possible to escape the train without Natalya following. If done correctly, you can complete the level without shooting Xenia on 00 Agent, as Natalya cracks Boris' password a few seconds before the train explodes. Under normal circumstances, this would not be enough time to escape the train with Natalya, but if you are already outside the train, you can finish the level before the train explodes. However, almost every time you escape the train (No matter how and from which angle), Natalya will always follow and drop what she was doing. Failing the objectives completely.
