Dino Domain
Dino Domain is the first area in Diddy Kong Racing and Diddy Kong Racing DS. The entrance to this place is located between the two waterfalls in the center of Timber's Island, and the player needs one Golden Balloon to enter it. Dino Domain is based on the dinosaur world, as the name implies. The boss of Dino Domain is Tricky the Triceratops.
Description
Truly a land before time. A world where plodding herbivores and screeching pterodactyls live in peace under a moody rust-colored sky, oblivious to the cars and planes that come roaring through. The place has its dangers, but does not everywhere? In this world, you will race among such varied surroundings as the tranquil valley of Ancient Lake, the bubbling lava caverns of Hot Top Volcano, the barren twilight mystery of Fossil Canyon and the remains of a long-forgotten civilization at Jungle Falls.
Dino Domain
Ancient Lake, Dino Domain
The Ancient Lake track is the first track of Dino Domain and is set in a lake. A wandering dinosaur appears in this level. It may trample the player. This track also has the key for this world's battle arena. One Golden Balloon is required to enter the course, and after Tricky is defeated the first time, the total balloons needed to enter increases to 6.
- Requirement(s): 1 Golden Balloon (regular course)
6 Golden Balloons (Coin Challenge course) - Vehicle Type(s): Car, Hovercraft, and Plane
Ancient Lake is the first track in the games Diddy Kong Racing and Diddy Kong Racing DS. One Golden Balloon is required to get in this track, while six are needed for the second challenge.
Course Layout
The track begins with a straight pathway over the concrete road. The road will soon become bumpier, as it begins to curve around the bend. A zipper can be found in the area, which gives racers an extra speed boost. The track will then bend into a small U shape, until the player rides under a small tunnel. On the other side of this tunnel is a large dinosaur, as well as a small lake. If the player hits the dinosaur, they will react as if they were hit by an item. Driving into the lake will slow the player down. A large tunnel follows, followed by a small bridge over a small river. The track ends with a straight pathway into the finish line.
Coin Challenge Locations
Like other levels, Ancient Lake is filled with eight Silver Coins, scattered all around the area. The coins only appear after player has beaten Tricky the Triceratops for the first time.
- On a small bump before the first set of Item Balloons.
- Shortly after the first set of Item Balloons in the center of the track. Just after the first set of bananas, found in the center of the track, just like the other coins.
- Slightly in front of the third coin.
- When the racer rides around the first turn, the coin is in the center of the road.
- Not too long after the second set of Item Balloons.
- In the dinosaur's path, shortly after the sixth coin. As usual, it is located in the middle of the road.
- After hitting the last zipper, the coin can be found between two bananas.
Key Location
This track holds the key to the locked door in Dino Domain. It's found in an area on a ramp that requires a speed boost to get to.
Fossil Canyon, Dino Domain
The Fossil Canyon track is the second track of Dino Domain and is set in a dusky barren wasteland. A wandering dinosaur from Ancient Lake is seen again at the beginning of the level which will not wander on the racetrack. 2 Golden Balloons are required to enter the course, and the reentry total increases to 7 after Tricky is defeated the first time.
- Requirement(s): 2 Golden Balloons (regular course),
7 Golden Balloons (Coin Challenge course) - Vehicle Type(s): Car, Hovercraft, and Plane
Fossil Canyon is the second track in the game Donkey Kong Racing and its remake, Diddy Kong Racing DS. Two Golden Balloons are needed to gain access to this course, and after Tricky the Triceratops is defeated the first time, the player needs seven balloons for the second challenge.
Course Layout
The track begins with a straight pathway leading to a dinosaur. A zipper can be found to the left of this road to give players an extra speed boost. Some palm trees are also located around the area, and can slow players down when hit. Two roads appear. One leads to a dinosaur, while the other leans left, where racers can find another zipper on the right side of the road. Riding forward in this part of the track takes racers to a small lake, with the rest of the road curving around it. A long tunnel is found ad the end of the curve. The tunnel's interior consists of a sharp turn at its entrance, followed by a straight pathway down the area. Another sharp turn at the end of this pathway leads players to another zipper. The tunnel's exit is right after this turn. After going through a short ramp, players will land on the road. A fork-in-the-road can be found here. The left passage is shorter, but contains less items and is noticeably much bumpier and thinner. The two pathways soon meet up as the track nears its end, where racers will hit another large bump to find their way off of the road. A straight pathway from here can take the players across the finish line.
Coin Challenge Locations
Like the other levels, Fossil Canyon is filled with eight Silver Coins, scattered all around the area. However, the coins only appear once the player has beaten Tricky the Triceratops once.
- The first coin can be found in the center of the track near the first zipper.
- The next coin is located right after the first set of balloons on the side of the road. In the Nintendo DS remake of the game, it is instead in the center of the track.
- The third coin can be found shortly after the second zipper.
- Not too long after the second zipper, a lake can be found to the left of the track. The coin is along the edge of this lake near a tunnel.
- Right by the third zipper, racers can find the next coin.
- The sixth coin is located before a small bump outside of a tunnel.
- On the fork-in-the-road, a coin can be found in the route to the right.
- On the left route in the fork, racers can find the final coin.
Jungle Falls, Dino Domain
The Jungle Falls track is the third track of Dino Domain and is set in a track full of giant footprints and fossil. This is considered the shortest track of all. The player needs 3 Golden Balloons to enter the course, and after Tricky is defeated the first time, the total needed to reenter the course jumps to 8.
- Requirement(s): 8 Golden Balloons (regular course),
8 Golden Balloons (Coin Challenge course) - Vehicle Type(s): Car, Hovercraft, and Plane
Jungle Falls is the third track in set for the game Diddy Kong Racing and its remake, Diddy Kong Racing DS. It requires 3 balloons to gain access to the track while 8 balloons are needed for the second challenge.
Course Layout
The course starts with a curve containing a zipper around a small lake, which leads to a small tunnel. After the tunnel, a small curve to the right leads to a straight road and bridge. Two tunnels appear. The upper path can only be accessed by a plane while the lower path can be accessed by all. The upper path is shorter. Both paths lead out to the same trail, which shows two stone hedges and a road in the middle. After a curve, players will enter a wider zone. A large dinosaur skull appears. It is hollow and contains a zipper inside. A road surrounded by bones follows, which leads to the finish line.
Coin Challenge Locations
Like other levels, Jungle Falls is filled with eight Silver Coins, scattered all around the area. The coins only appear after player has beaten Tricky the Triceratops for the first time.
- Directly ahead of the starting line, to the right, by the first pool
- At the corner of the first bend, by the second pool, to the left of the track
- On the left side of the bridge, just before dropping over the trackside into the water
- Middle of the bridge
- At the end of the bridge, over to the left again by the ruins entrance
- Slightly to the right of the track in the area with several pools and small ruins
- In the dinosaur skull, directly in front of the zipper
- To the left of the track, after the last rib of the dinosaur skeleton
Hot Top Volcano, Dino Domain
The Hot Top Volcano track is the fourth track of Dino Domain and is set in a lava-themed track. This is also the first track to feature the racers on planes. 5 Golden Balloons are required to enter the course, and the total to reenter jumps to 10 balloons after Tricky is defeated the first time.
- Requirement(s): 5 Golden Balloons (regular course),
11 Golden Balloons (Coin Challenge course) - Vehicle Type(s): Hovercraft and Plane
Hot Top Volcano is the fourth track in set for the game Diddy Kong Racing and its remake, Diddy Kong Racing DS. 5 Golden Balloons are required to enter the course, and after Tricky the Triceratops is defeated the first time, 10 are required to reenter and compete in the second challenge. It is the first course to have the Plane as a default vehicle type.
Course Layout
The course starts out on a cliff. After falling down, a stone pillar is found. Players can go left or right, but both ways lead to the same tunnel. The right path is slightly longer. They will then enter a tunnel with a lava flow in the middle and two small roads on the sides. After a few curves, the exit can be seen, which leads to another cliff. After falling down, they will enter another tunnel filled with lava. A zipper can be found here. After a curve, players will see the exit and enter a valley, where they must make another turn. A lava flow can be seen, along with a zipper above it. The lava flow contains a few platforms that can serve as ramps. Another zipper appears above the last platform. A ramp inside a tunnel follows, which leads to the finish line.
Coin Challenge Locations
Like other levels, Hot Top Volcano is filled with eight Silver Coins, scattered all around the area. The coins only appear after player has beaten Tricky the Triceratops for the first time.
- On the right hand side of the pillar just past the starting line
- Through the left hand tunnel entrance to lava part of the course
- In the middle of the course above the lava between two red balloons
- In the middle of the course over the first ramp
- Above the land bridge above four balloons
- Centre of the exit from the lava tunnel
- In the first zipper beyond the dinosaur
- In the second zipper
Fire Mountain (T.T. Trial), Dino Domain
The Fire Mountain is the battle stage of Dino Domain. Players must gather and hatch three eggs on their own nest. The other players may steal other eggs from their nests while hatching.
Fire Mountain is the battle stage for Dino Domain in Diddy Kong Racing and it's DS remake. In the original this game can be played after obtaining the key hidden in Ancient Lake, but in the DS version it is only playable in multiplayer mode.
Description
The aim here is to hatch three baby dinosaurs before any of your opponents do. Swoop down to collect your first egg from the center of the arena, then quickly return it to your nest. Each of the four nests are clearly marked with a picture of its corresponding racer. The hatching process begins when each egg is deposited into the nest by pressing the Z button. For a few seconds the egg icon beneath your racer's image at the top of the screen will flash. At this time only, the egg is vulnerable to the thieving intentions of your rivals! Defend your nest well and the dino will hatch, leaving you free to scramble for the new egg that appears in the arena below.
Course Layout
The stage is shaped like a large circle. A few dinosaur eggs can be found in a nest located in the center of the stage. These eggs can be taken at any time, and more eggs will appear after a certain amount of time. In the higher areas of the stage, four small individual nests can be found, with each one belonging to one of the players. A picture of the player's character can be found above the nest, which shows who the nest belongs to.
Objective
The objective of the game involves the player getting three hatched dinosaur eggs into their respective nest. Eggs can be obtained from the stage and by stealing them from enemies. When an egg is placed on the nest, it will take a while to hatch. When it is still attempting to hatch, opponents can steal it. Items are located around the stage. These can be used to stun opponents and steal their eggs. After 3 eggs have hatched in one nest, the player who the nest belongs to will win.
Tricky's Coursed, Dino Domain
Tricky's Course is the boss course of Dino Domain where players must race Tricky the Triceratops to the top of a spiraling mountain. If players beat him the course they unlock the silver coin challenge for the Dino Domain tracks.
Tricky's Course is the first boss course of Diddy Kong Racing and its remake Diddy Kong Racing DS and is found in the Dino Domain world. In this level the player must beat Tricky the Triceratops to the top of a spiraling desert mountain full of obstacles. There are some minor changes to the track in the DS version of the game.
Once the player beats him the first time Tricky unlocks the silver coin challenges for all the Dino Domain race courses. After players have beaten all the silver coin challenge courses players will have a rematch with Tricky, like the silver coin challenge races this rematch will be more difficult than the original race. Once the player has beaten Tricky both times the first quarter of the stone carving of Wizpig's head on Timber Island will become colored in to indicate the players success.
