In Ocarina of Time, Castle Town Market is located in the northernmost section of Hyrule, directly in front of Hyrule Castle. The entrance to the Castle Town is surrounded by a moat whose source floats from Zora's River, and the only way to get across it is by using a drawbridge; however, since monsters roam the field at night, the bridge is only lowered during the daytime in order to protect the townsfolk.
Directly inside the gates of the town is the Guard House, which is a small building filled with jars. Further in is the main area of the Castle Town, a rather happy-go-lucky, yet surprisingly small community. All throughout the day and night, the Castle Town Market is home to various stores and outlets where Hyruleans from all over come for shopping and entertainment. It hosts a wide variety of shops, including the Bazaar, the Happy Mask Shop, and the Potion Shop. Moreover, businesses that focus in the entertainment area can be found, consisting of the Bombchu Bowling Alley and the Shooting Gallery. While all of the previously mentioned shops and businesses are only open during the day, there are also other locales that are open exclusively during the nighttime such as the Bombchu Shop and the Treasure Chest Shop.
During the night, the Market becomes a quiet, calm town, as most of the citizens have departed by now. Furthermore, packs of dogs roam all over the now-empty town, and they will follow Link if he gets close enough to one of them.
The smaller, less austere version of the Town serves as the home of the Temple of Time, a large structure that functions as the resting place of the Master Sword. The Temple of Time is located in the northeastern portion of Castle Town in a more secluded area, far from all of the bustling and noises that surround the Market.
However, when Link returns seven years later after retrieving the Master Sword from its pedestal, he is shocked to find the town completely in ruins as a result of Ganondorf's invasion. Most of its citizens managed to escape to Kakariko Village, leaving the town to be invaded by hordes of ReDeads. Due to this, Link can no longer enter any of the previously inhabited locales of the Market. Directly outside of town, the drawbridge has been destroyed by Ganondorf, allowing the city to be accessed by Link during the day as well as the night. However, because of this, the monsters outside of town were able to cross the rubble of the bridge and gain access to the town as well.
1. Market, Hyrule Castle Town
Hyrule Castle Town Market is the capital of Hyrule located directly in front of Hyrule Castle. It is usually the main hub and center of activity in the Kingdom where Hyruleans come to engage in business and trade goods. The Town is considered to be one of the liveliest towns in Hyrule. The population consists mostly of Hylians, but as seen in Twilight Princess, Gorons commonly occupy the streets in hopes of selling their wares. In all the games in which it appears, Hyrule Castle Town is home to a wide variety of shops, side quests, and mini-games.
As a means of protection, the Town is usually surrounded by a moat that is only accessible via bridges or drawbridges. Throughout the Zelda series, Castle Town has been prone to conflict multiple times and has been the subject of invasion more than once.

2. Bazaar, Hyrule Castle Town
As young Link, the Bazaar is located in Hyrule Castle Town and is the first place where the Hylian Shield is available for purchase for 80 Rupees. However, if Link talks to Death Mountain Trail Gatekeeper in Kakariko Village first, he can get a discount on the Hylian Shield between 10 to 40 Rupees. Seven years later, when Hyrule Castle Town is destroyed, the owner of the Bazaar flees to Kakariko Village and sets up his shop in what used to be the Death Mountain Trail Gatekeeper's House.
In Ocarina of Time 3D, the Bazaar gets a more carnival-like look, being more elaborate and featuring posters, Bombs, streamers, items in storage, and a green carpet.

3. Ghost Shop, Hyrule Castle Town
The Ghost Shop is a location in Ocarina of Time and is home to the Poe Collector.
Accessible near the entrance to the Market where the Guard House used to be, the Ghost Shop opened after Ganondorf took over Hyrule during the seven years that Link was asleep. As such, the Ghost Shop can only be found during Link's adulthood.
Here, the Poe Collector gathers all sorts of Poes and offers to pay Link with in exchange for them. If Link brings him a normal Poe, the mysterious man will give him 10 Rupees for it. However, if Link brings him a Big Poe from Hyrule Field, the Poe Collector will reward him with 50 Rupees and add 100 Points to his point card. By bringing in 10 Big Poes and gathering 1000 points, the Poe Collector will give Link an empty Bottle as a compensation for increasing his inventory of Big Poes, calling Link a "genuine Ghost Hunter." After this, the Poe Collector will not buy any more Poes from Link.
4. Guard House, Hyrule Castle Town
The Guard House is relatively small, and is located just beside the entrance to Hyrule Castle Town. It is open 24 hours a day and its only inhabitant is a bored Soldier who actually encourages Link to destroy the Pots within as he is sick of all the peace in the world. The Guard House is filled with 44 Rupee-laden Pots, five Crates, and one Gold Skulltula.
At night, the guard will talk about his passion for ghosts and that studying them is a hobby of his.
When Link returns seven years later, the Guard House has been turned into the Ghost Shop, run by the Poe Collector.
5. Happy Mask Shop, Hyrule Castle Town
The Happy Mask Shop is located in the Market during the past. It only opens after Link gives Zelda's Letter to the Death Mountain Trail Gatekeeper in Kakariko Village. Link can also enter the Shop before it opens, only finding inside a bearded man who wonders when will it open.
Instead of selling the Masks, the Happy Mask Shop hires Link to become a "happiness salesman." The Shop loans a Mask to Link so that he can sell it to other people. Link must then pay back the money to the Shop, which will in return lend him a newer model to sell. Link can borrow Masks that he has already sold, but each model can only be sold once.
At first, the Happy Mask Shop only has the Keaton Mask in stock. If Link manages to complete the Mask Trading Sequence and sell all of the first four Masks, the Happy Mask Shop Owner will reward him with the Mask of Truth, which grants the ability to speak to Gossip Stones. Moreover, the Happy Mask Shop will put up three new Mask models.
During the future, the Happy Mask Shop is destroyed and abandoned.
6. Potion Shop, Hyrule Castle Town
There are two Potion Shops in Ocarina of Time. One Potion Shop is located in the Market, while the other Potion Shop, also known as Granny's Potion Shop, is located in Kakariko Village. The Market Potion Shop offers a wider variety of goods for sale, though it only carries Red Potions and Green Potions. Inside the Market Potion Shop, an old man will tell Link of a rumor of another Potion Shop that sells superior Blue Potions. After Ganondorf destroys Castle Town, the Market Potion Shop moves across from the Bazaar to the empty building near the Death Mountain Trail. After having moved locations, the owner of the Potion Shop will inform Link that there is a second Potion Shop that can be accessed through the door to his side. This pathway is notably blocked by a Carpenter while Link is a child. The Potion Shop remains closed at night in both of its locations.
Granny's Potion Shop in Kakariko Village is operated by Granny, though as she is away on an expedition, it is impossible to enter while Link is a child. Once Link returns to Kakariko Village as an adult, he can enter Granny's Potion Shop and purchase Blue Potions from her. Unlike the other Potion Shop, Granny's Potion Shop will remain open at night. After receiving the Odd Mushroom from the Master Craftsman's Son in the Lost Woods, Link can take it to Granny inside her Potion Shop. She will then reduce it down to an Odd Poultice for free and urge Link to return it to him. However, she also cautions Link that the Poultice will not work on monsters, implying that it may be too late for it to be of any use to him.
According to one of the Carpenters, Granny's Potion Shop is also the home of the Master Craftsman

7. Bombchu Bowling Alley, Hyrule Castle Town
The Bombchu Bowling Alley is a location and Mini-Game and in Ocarina of Time.
The entrance to the Bombchu Bowling Alley is located west of the central area of Hyrule Castle Town. This Mini-Game is only available after defeating King Dodongo in Dodongo's Cavern. The object is to aim a Bombchu past Cuccos and a Blade Trap into a hole. Prizes rotate seemingly randomly and are only revealed after paying, but before beginning the actual game. Prizes include a Purple Rupee, a Piece of Heart, 10 Bombs, 10 Bombchus, and a Large Bomb Bag.
8. Shooting Gallery, Hyrule Castle Town
In Ocarina of Time, the Shooting Gallery is situated in the Market, but moves to Kakariko Village after Ganon's takeover. To win, Link must successfully shoot all ten Rupee-shaped targets in succession, some of which move, using fifteen shots. If Link hits at least eight targets, he will be given a free retry.
As a child, by using the Slingshot, the targets come up in a fixed order. The first time Link shoots every single one, he will receive a large Deku Seed Bag, and subsequent wins will grant 50 Rupees.
As an adult, by using the Bow, the prize is a larger Quiver, but the targets appear in a random order. Adult Link can play even before he gets the Fairy Bow from the Forest Temple, although he will only win 50 Rupees for completing it.
9. Bombchu Shop, Hyrule Castle Town
Located in the Back Alley, it specializes in selling Bombchu in various quantities and prices. It is only opened at night. The Bombchu on the left side all come in quantities of 10 for 100 Rupees, while the ones on the right contain 20 Bombchu for 180 Rupees. If Link buys all of the Bombchu available, the shop will not restock its merchandise.
10. Treasure Chest Game, Hyrule Castle Town
The Treasure Chest Game is a recurring Mini-Game in The Legend of Zelda series. They are commonly Mini-Games in which Link picks from a choice of Treasure Chests to win Rupees or other items.
In Ocarina of Time, the Treasure Chest Contest is located in the Market. The shop is only open at night. For 10 Rupees, Link can play. The object of this game is to decide between two chests in each of the first five rooms. One chest will hold a set amount of Rupees, while the other will contain a Door Key. Receiving the Door Key will allow Link to enter the next room through a locked door, but earning the Rupee prize prevents him from going any farther. The sixth room at the end of the game has only one chest, with a Piece of Heart inside, unless Link has already taken the prize before, in which case it is a Purple Rupee instead.
According to a Gossip Stone, it is against the rules to use glasses in this contest. This gossip actually gives a vague hint that Link can use the Lens of Truth to ensure victory, as it allows him to see the contents of each chest before he even opens it.

11. Back Alley, Hyrule Castle Town
An area known as the Back Alley is also situated within the Castle Town, and it is considerably less crowded and quieter than its market counterpart mostly due to the fact that this is where most of the Town citizens live. Few people roam these streets, so Link can usually only find one or two people dawdling in the Alley at any given hour. The young hero can only enter through three doors in the Back Alley, two of which are residents' homes and the other being the Bombchu Shop.
After obtaining all of the three Spiritual Stones and retrieving the Ocarina of Time from the moat near the Castle Town entrance, Link can go to the Back Alley to witness a dying soldier in the east area of the Alley. If the young hero speaks to him, he will tell Link about Ganondorf's betrayal of the King as well as Princess Zelda's escape from the Castle. He then urges Link to go to the Temple of Time before taking his final breath and dying. If Link tries to speak to him again, Navi will mention that he is not moving anymore.
Once Link becomes an adult, the Back Alley becomes inaccessible due to its entrances being blocked off by rubble.
12. Temple of Time, Hyrule Castle Town
Many years after the events of Skyward Sword, there was an Era of Chaos with wars and fighting over the Triforce that was located in the Sacred Realm. To put an end to these wars, an ancient Sage named Rauru built over the remains of the Sealed Temple a new Temple of Time, which contained the only entrance to the Sacred Realm. Rauru borrowed the name for the Temple from legends of the events of Skyward Sword, about a hero who had traveled between two times. Using the Master Sword and the three Spiritual Stones as keys to the Sacred Realm, this new temple was the sanctified gateway between Hyrule and the Sacred Realm, and its purpose was to protect that gateway, and thus the Triforce, from evildoers who would seek to misuse it. Inside the Temple of Time is a chamber that is home to the Master Sword and the Pedestal of Time; however, the entrance to this chamber is sealed by the Door of Time. When the Master Sword was infused into the Pedestal of Time, it sealed that gateway in the hopes of preventing all but the most worthy to reach the Sacred Realm, where the sacred Triforce lies within the Temple of Light.
Within the Temple stands a sacred altar which bears inscribed instructions to opening the Door of Time, which leads to the chamber of the Master Sword. The inscription reads that the person needs to have possession of all three Spiritual Stones, stand with the Ocarina of Time, and play the "Song of Time." It is said that only the Hero of Time may enter the secret chambers of the Temple and draw the Master Sword. If the Hero of Time withdraws the Master Sword from its Pedestal, it will once again open the portal to the Sacred Realm, granting access to the Temple of Light.
During the Era of the Hero of Time, a few years after the Hyrulean Civil War that left him an orphan in Kokiri Forest, a young Link begins collecting the three Spiritual Stones from the Kokiri, Goron and Zora races to let him gain entry to the chamber in which the Master Sword resides. After collecting the three Stones and getting the Ocarina of Time from a young Princess Zelda, who was fleeing Hyrule Castle with her nursemaid Impa, Link travels to the Temple of Time to acquire the Master Sword and enter the Sacred Realm in order to obtain the Triforce before Ganondorf does. However, his spirit is unexpectedly sealed away for seven years by the Master Sword, for Link was not yet old enough to become the Hero of Time. When Link finally awakens seven years later within the heart of the Sacred Realm, the Temple of Light, the ancient Sage known as Rauru explains the Kingdom of Hyrule's dire situation to him, gives him the Light Medallion, and charges him with the task of awakening Six Sages so that all seven of them will have enough power to seal Ganondorf within the Sacred Realm and save the Kingdom.
In order to awaken all of the Sages, Link must keep returning to the Temple of Time to use the Pedestal of Time to travel in time back and forth seven years. To help him with this, Princess Zelda, disguised as Sheik, teaches the young hero the "Prelude of Light," a melody that he can play on his ocarina to quickly return to the Temple of Time any time he wishes.
When Link has successfully awakened his childhood friend, the leader of the Gorons, the Zora princess, Princess Zelda's bodyguard and the female leader of the Gerudo thieves as the new Sages, only one remains. Rauru advises him to go to the Temple of Time and meet with someone who is waiting for him there. Here, Link meets Sheik, who reveals himself to be Princess Zelda as well as the seventh Sage. After explaining the reason behind her hiding and her motives, the Princess asks for Link's help one last time to defeat Ganondorf and grants him the Light Arrows, the only weapon that can penetrate the evil king's defenses.
Upon defeating Ganondorf and being sent back in time seven years by a guilt-stricken Princess Zelda to relive the years of his childhood that he missed, Link leaves the Master Sword behind in its Pedestal in the Temple and steps out into what will be a new history caused by his foreknowledge of the future.
When loading a saved game, adult Link will begin in the Temple of Time if the game was saved while he was not in a dungeon.
13. Chamber of Sages, Hyrule Castle Town
The Chamber of Sages is where the Sages meet.
After Link withdraws the Master Sword from the Pedestal of Time, his spirit is sealed away in the Chamber of Sages due to him being too young to bear the title of the "Hero of Time." Since Link's action opened the gate to the Sacred Realm, Ganondorf took this opportunity to gain access to the Sacred Realm, eventually reaching the Temple of Light and taking the Triforce for himself. While the Sacred Realm transformed into the Dark World, Rauru used his powers to keep the Chamber of Sages intact.
Seven years pass, and Rauru, the Sage of Light, awakens Link in the Chamber of Sages now that he is old enough to be considered the Hero of Time. Rauru explains Link's fate and grants him the Light Medallion to add to his power, sending off the young hero to awaken the other five Sages so that they may add their might to Link and aid him on his quest to save Hyrule from Ganondorf's rule.
Though Link is not able to visit the Temple of Light on his own, he is always warped to the Chamber of Sages every time he awakens a Sage. Here, the Sage bestows their powers to Link in form of a Medallion before returning to Hyrule again.
At the end of the game, after Link gives the final strike to Ganon and Princess Zelda calls upon the power of the Sages to seal Ganondorf away, Rauru and the other five Sages appear inside the Chamber of Sages to send the King of Evil into the void of the Evil Realm.
14. Hyrule Castle, Hyrule Castle Town
Hyrule Castle, also known as the Castle of Hyrule, is a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series. It is the seat of Hyrule's monarchical government and the home of the Royal Family of Hyrule, which usually includes Princess Zelda and the normally unseen King of Hyrule. The castle first debuted in A Link to the Past, the third game in the series. Each game that contains Hyrule Castle features a different layout. Near the castle is Hyrule Castle Town, which serves as the city's marketplace where Hyruleans come to engage in business and trade.
Hyrule Castle is usually directly in the center of Hyrule's geographical layout in each game, serving as the crown jewel of the kingdom. It is often one of the most important places for Link during his numerous adventures in Hyrule and many times is the site of the final confrontations, usually serving as a level or dungeon of sorts. As the seat of Hyrule's government, the Castle has been the location of multiple conflicts and has been the subject of invasion more than once throughout its depiction in The Legend of Zelda series.
In Ocarina of Time, Hyrule Castle is the second northernmost location in Hyrule, second only to the Death Mountain located directly east of it. It can be accessed by passing through the adjacent Hyrule Castle Town, which is protected by another moat and a drawbridge. Since monsters roam the field outside of town at night, the bridge only lowers during the day and is promptly raised as soon as night falls.
The royal castle is home to Princess Zelda, the King of Hyrule, and other members of the Royal Family. Due to the actions of a certain foolish man who wanted to see Princess Zelda, the castle guards have increased their security and won't allow anyone into the castle. The castle's grounds are guarded day and night by Hyrulean Guards, each of which will throw out any intruders they can find. The entrance to the castle itself can only be reached with the aid of a drawbridge, although is never lowered throughout the entire game and thus impedes Link from accessing the entire castle.
After Link obtains the Kokiri's Emerald from the dying Great Deku Tree and first leaves Kokiri Forest, Kaepora Gaebora advises him to visit Princess Zelda in Hyrule Castle. Once Link successfully sneaks past the castle guards, and has assisted Malon in waking up her father Talon, Link can enter the Castle Courtyard via a secret passageway. Here, Link must sneak past even more guards to reach his destination. Coincidentally, guards in the field outside always throw Link out past the Castle's main gate, but guards inside the Castle throw him right outside the secret entrance, where Link would still be trespassing anyway.
However, when Link returns seven years later, and after Ganondorf's rise to power, he is shocked to find the Hyrule Castle completely destroyed, and Ganon's Castle erected on the ruins where the castle once stood. Ganon's Castle serves as his seat of power in Hyrule.
15. Rainbow Bridge, Hyrule Castle Town
The Rainbow Bridge is a location in Ocarina of Time. It is a temporary bridge conjured using the power of the six Sages in order to help Link reach the final dungeon, Ganon's Castle.
The bridge is created by the Sages when Link arrives at Ganon's Castle after Princess Zelda's capture in order to rescue her. Rauru calls out to Link once he gets to the front of the castle gates, and tells Link the way to save Zelda. Using their power in the form of colored orbs, the Sages then create the bridge, allowing the hero to proceed and enter the castle.
16. Ganon's Castle, Hyrule Castle Town
Ganon's Castle, also known as Ganon's Tower, is a recurring Dungeon in The Legend of Zelda series.
Entrance to Ganon's Castle
Ganon's Castle replaces Hyrule Castle over the seven years that Link sleeps after he withdraws the Master Sword from its pedestal. Ganon's Castle floats over a large lake of lava, rendering it inaccessible until the Six Sages are awakened and create a bridge of light allowing Link to enter Inside Ganon's Castle.
Within the tower's center is a giant spindle leading up to the top that is blocked off by a surrounding magic seal. The force field that surrounds the spindle is powered by six barriers that are based on each of the adult dungeons. Above each of the barriers is the symbol that represents the element.
- Forest Barrier: Actually a wind-themed route, it revolves around collection of Silver Rupees over endless pits ventilated by fans, and a fight against Wolfos.
- Water Barrier: Actually an ice-themed route, it revolves around pushing blocks on a slippery, icy floor and using Blue Fire to melt red ice.
- Shadow Barrier: It revolves around crossing a prolonged chasm by activating some passages and walking through invisible platforms. The Golden Gauntlets are found here.
- Fire Barrier: It revolves around collecting Silver Rupees across a huge room with lava while avoiding obstacles and enemies. The Gauntlets are required here.
- Light Barrier: It can only be accessed after the huge boulder blocking it is removed with the Golden Gauntlets, and revolves around exploring various small rooms, each one showing a different puzzle. Notably, the barrier's core is behind a fake wall.
- Spirit Barrier: It revolves around collecting Silver Rupees while avoiding Blade Traps, a Light Beam puzzle, and the use of rare items like Bombchus and Fire Arrows.
There is a secret room under the bridge that contains various Business Scrubs and fairies, which can become helpful as Link dispels each of the barriers in Ganon's Tower. Once the six barriers have been disintegrated, the magical barrier will disappear, allowing Link to make his way up to the tower.
The way up to the castle is a long staircase that leads to rooms filled with Dinolfos, Stalfos, and Iron Knuckles which Link must defeat individually to progress up the tower. At the top awaits Ganondorf, who plays an organ while Princess Zelda remains trapped in a crystal above him. After Ganondorf is defeated, the tower will begin to rumble, forcing Princess Zelda and Link to escape the tower within a time limit. All of the doors of the castle have been blocked, and as such, it is up to Zelda to use her powers and open up each of the exits. The two take a long path that winds in and out of the castle, fighting enemies and dodging falling rocks. Once out, the castle collapses in front of their eyes. However, Ganondorf appears among the rubble and transforms himself into the dark beast known as Ganon using the Triforce of Power. Link must defeat the beast once and for all to restore peace to Hyrule.
Master Quest
The mini-dungeons corresponding to each temple have been remixed in the Master Quest version of the game. Also, instead of two Beamos there are a Blade Trap, two Green Bubbles, two Armos and an Iron Knuckle in the first room.
- Forest Barrier: The first room is identical. In the turbine room, there are now more Beamos and also an Armos. The Song of Time must be played several times.
- Water Barrier: In the first room, there are several stalactites that fall from the ceiling, and the blue fire is surrounded by a pillar of water. Curiously, there is a lone Dead Hand's hand that is used to "reveal" the location of a switch hidden inside a wall that lowers the pillar of water when hit. In the second room there are three Keese, each one is different. There is a Silver Rupee puzzle and more red ice.
- Shadow Barrier: There are now some invisible platforms and a Beamos. The Golden Gauntlets are no longer found here, and Fire Arrows are required to solve some puzzles.
- Fire Barrier: Most platforms are moving or either rise or sink when Link stands on them. There are two big rocks now, and the Silver Rupees are in places that are difficult to reach.
- Light Barrier: In the first room, there is a puzzle involving torches that must be lit quickly to make a chest appear over the door. The next room is the same, but instead of having to collect Silver Rupees, it is now required to activate a switch while avoiding the boulder and a Beamos. In the fake barrier room, there are no enemies, but there is a switch that gives access to the last room hidden inside a torch.
- Spirit Barrier: In the first room, instead of Silver Rupees there are some stone thrones blocking access to a switch. Some Fire Keese and a Torch Slug are found here, and there is an eye on the wall that if shot, makes an Iron Knuckle appear so the thrones can be destroyed. In the second room there are now Green Bubbles, ReDeads and Gibdos. There are several suns, just like in the original version. However, one makes a Wallmaster appear, others make chests with replenishment appear and the last one makes the chest with the Golden Gauntlets appear. The sun required for opening the door is blocked by the Spirit Symbol on the wall and only a small portion of it can be seen.
Small Keys
- In the original, there are two small keys in the light section.
- In Master Quest, there are three in the forest, shadow, and spirit sections.
