Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 1. Ambush at Mos Eisley. The Ambush at Mos Eisley was conducted by the Galactic Empire against the Rebel Alliance over the Tatooine spaceport Mos Eisley. Six months after the destruction of the Death Star—an Imperial battle station—members of the elite Rebel starfighter group Rogue Squadron were taking an off-duty morning run through the infamous Beggar's Canyon outside of Mos Eisley. The Empire deployed detachments of Viper probe droids and TIE Bombers to Tatooine to bomb the spaceport and the surrounding areas to root out Luke Skywalker, a member of Rogue Squadron and the Rebel pilot responsible for the Death Star's destruction. The X-wings of the fighter squad provided support for the homesteads and native Jawas under Imperial fire. The team then made a run through Mos Eisley, shooting down the six TIE bombers before the city could be destroyed.

Prelude

Ever since Rebel pilot Luke Skywalker became a thorn in its side by destroying the Death Star, the Galactic Empire kept an eye on his homeworld of Tatooine. Acting on a tip from an unsavory bounty hunter, the Empire dispatched probe droids and bombers to root out Skywalker's squadron by terrorizing civilians and searching for clues to Skywalker's whereabouts.

The battle

X-Wing Fighter flying over Jabba's Palace during the 1. Ambush at Mos Eisley from Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - Chapter I.Six months after the Battle of Yavin, the newly formed Alliance to Restore the Republic starfighter unit Rogue Squadron visited Mos Eisley on the planet Tatooine. Commander Luke Skywalker, the Rogue Leader, initially planned to simply patrol the outskirts of the spaceport. As three squadron members flew in an early morning run through the area, Wedge Antilles, one of the Rebel pilots, spotted several Viper probe droids opening fire on a number of homesteads. The pilots were caught off guard, and one member of the squadron was shot down near Jabba's Palace, headquarters of the gangster Jabba the Hutt, but the pilot survived the crash-landing. Rogue Squadron fanned out and destroyed most of the eighteen probe droids in the area. The squadron flew by two civilian T-16 skyhoppers in Beggar's Canyon.

As Skywalker neared the last of the homesteads, he veered off to the area around the Great Pit of Carkoon, site of the sarlacc—a giant, flesh-eating beast—and knocked out the 4-member stormtrooper and dewback-riding stormtrooper patrol there. The Rebel pilot then destroyed the last three probe droids, saving a nearby Jawa sandcrawler transport.

Bombing of Mos Eisley

TIE Bombers attacking Mos Eisley during the 1. Ambush at Mos Eisley from Star Wars: Rogue Squadron - Chapter I.After the probe droids were taken out, a six-fighter squadron of TIE Bombers began an attack on Mos Eisley, flying in a circular pattern to drop proton bombs on vital parts of the city. Skywalker ordered Rogue Squadron to assist, and they quickly flew overhead; the bombers were no match for Rogue Squadron's T-65 X-wing starfighters, and all the bombers were shot from the sky.

Aftermath

After the ambush force was destroyed, Skywalker thought that the newly formed Rogue Squadron would go on to make a name for itself. With the success of their mission, the Rogues were assigned to escort supplies on the planet Barkhesh shortly afterward.

Behind the scenes

The Ambush at Mos Eisley was the first mission in the video game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, which was released in 1998. Due to the game mechanics during the mission, it is possible to destroy Jabba's Palace and other civilian targets, although this is non-canon; if enough civilian targets are destroyed by the player's actions or lack thereof, the mission will end in failure. To achieve the gold medal on this mission, it is necessary to veer over to the side by the Great Pit of Carkoon and take out extra stormtroopers, although such an action is optional. The X-wing is the default craft for the mission.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron Official Player's Guide suggests the players prioritize attacking the probe droids which target the civilian structures to keep a high "friendlies saved" score. After the droids are destroyed, the guide tells the player to activate the speed boost by closing the S-foils on the X-wing. Once the player reaches Mos Eisley, the guide suggests targeting the second group of bombers first, as it is closer and the first group targets the player's wingmen.

Strategy Guide

This mission starts just outside of Mos Eisley, in the desert hills of Tatooine. Right away you will see a group of Probe Droids, about 3 or 4. Take them out, and your radar will direct you to the right. Take out this group of 5, then head right over the two buildings as your radar says. Here you will find 5 more Probe Droids, and after they're toast, follow the radar to the left.

Destroy the next 5 Droids, but do not follow the radar just yet; if you do, you will always be short of the Gold Medal by 4 enemies destroyed. Keep going straight, in the direction of 4 red blips on your radar. Here you will find 4 Stormtroopers, 2 on foot and 2 riding things. R2 will make a sound and Luke will laugh when you fly by. Take them out, then go ahead and follow your radar and take out the two Droids by the Sandcrawler.

Once done, the animation sequence will tell you to head to Mos Eisley. Do so, take out the 6 TIE Bombers, and you are done.

Tips

To get the Gold Medal for this mission you need to do it in 3 minutes, so be quick about taking out the enemies. do not worry about accuracy on this one.

2. Rendezvous on Barkhesh, Chapter I

This mission introduces major enemies such as the AT-ST. It also introduces a moving target to protect.

Briefing

you will fly this mission on Barkhesh, a planet noted for its hot, humid, tropical jungles in its southern regions. The local resistance there is transporting supplies desperately needed by the Rebellion. The Empire will do everything in its power to stop the transfer, and has posted Imperial scout walkers in the planet's canyons.

Description

Escort valuable rebel supplies through dangerous imperial territory. Over the humid lands of Barkhesh.

Mission Objectives
  1. Escort supply convoy to safety
Requirements for Gold

The Rendezvous on Barkhesh was a battle fought on the planet Barkhesh between Alliance to Restore the Republic forces under the command of General Carlist Rieekan—allied with native Barkhesh Resistance forces—and the Galactic Empire in 0.5 ABY. Following the evacuation of Yavin Base after the Battle of Yavin, the Alliance needed to recoup the large number of supplies either left behind on Yavin 4 or destroyed by Imperial forces during the evacuation.

The Barkhesh Resistance offered supplies to the Alliance, and an Alliance Lambda-class T-4a shuttle was assigned to rendezvous with a Barkhesh supply convoy and pick them up. Because of Imperial forces in the region, Commander Luke Skywalker and Rogue Squadron were assigned to escort duty. The Rogues protected the vital convoy as it moved from a supply base to the landing zone, engaging TIE bombers, All Terrain Scout Transports, and static turbolaser defenses. Rogue Squadron eliminated the enemy presence, and the cargo transfer proceeded unhindered.

Prelude

In 0.5 ABY, following the evacuation of Yavin Base in the wake of the Battle of Yavin, the Alliance to Restore the Republic found itself short on critical supplies. To this end, the Barkhesh Resistance, based on the planet Barkhesh in the Seitia sector of the Outer Rim Territories, offered to transfer several transports worth of supplies to the Alliance, which they did on a semi-yearly basis. General Carlist Rieekan oversaw the operation, which would require the transports to traverse a series of canyons between their supply base and the predetermined landing zone. Aware that local Imperial forces would attempt to stop the operation, Rieekan assigned Rogue Squadron, led by Commander Luke Skywalker, to fly escort for the convoy.

The Battle

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2. Rendezvous on Barkhesh.Commander Skywalker, leading a five-fighter formation of T-65 X-wing starfighters, arrived at the designated coordinates on Barkhesh to hook up with the Resistance's convoy and immediately encountered Viper probe droids near the supply base. Rogue Squadron made short work of a group of four of them, then engaged a second group of four shortly after flying over the supply base and rendezvousing with the convoy proper. With the immediate area clear of threats, the supply convoy—consisting of five large armed transports and three small combat vehicles—began to move out toward the landing zone.

The local Imperial forces had placed six All Terrain Scout Transports in the canyons between the supply base and the landing zone, in addition to static turbolaser defenses mounted on both the ridges and on the canyon floor. Six TIE bombers were also deployed to destroy the convoy. Rogue Squadron was forced to deal with each threat to ensure the safety of the convoy, employing both lasers and proton torpedoes. Successfully eliminating the immediate threat, Skywalker and the Rogues also engaged a small Imperial base not far from the landing zone. Although defended by two AT-STs, a turbolaser mounted on a tall turret, and six stormtroopers, the base was destroyed.

Aftermath

With enemy forces in the region cleared, an Alliance Lambda-class T-4a shuttle, using Imperial identification so as not to attract suspicion, landed on the planet and effected the cargo transfer with the convoy from the Barkhesh Resistance. The cargo provided by the Barkhesh rebels would assist the Alliance in replenishing the supplies lost during the evacuation of Yavin Base.

Behind the scenes

The Rendezvous on Barkhesh was featured in the second level—also entitled Rendezvous on Barkhesh—of the video game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, which was released in 1998.

The player takes on the role of Luke Skywalker during the mission. To get a gold medal on the level—the highest ranking a player can achieve in a mission—one must ensure that all friendly units are kept safe, and that at least thirty enemies are destroyed. To achieve this, the player must destroy the Imperial units located at the small base away from the battle zone. The mission can be completed without destroying all Imperial forces, and with friendly casualties, although the mission score will suffer as a result.

Strategy Guide

you will first be faced with 4 Probe droids in your path; take them out, but do not follow the radar yet. Quickly go right and take out an AT-ST, but ignore the others for now. Fly up and take out the two nearby Turbolasers, then follow your radar to the convoy.

When the convoy gets moving, take out the 4 Probe Droids in its path, then head right before you get to the building, between the hills, in the direction the convoy will go. Take out the AT-ST in your path, then keep going straight and take out the next two walkers.

Immediately head back to the convoy. Your radar will always steer you to the convoy. Two TIE Bombers will fly in from behind the convoy, so take them both out immediately. Head in the direction the convoy is going and you will find another AT-ST; take it out and get back to the convoy to take out the next two TIE Bombers.

Fly ahead of the convoy once again, and take out the two Turbolasers that should be firing on the armored escorts. Keep on going and you will see another AT-ST and a Big Gun Turret. At this point General Rieekan will be telling you to get back to the convoy, but ignore him for now. Take them out, but do not worry about the large container next to the Laser Tower; it is difficult to destroy and takes up time you do not have. Before heading back, take out the Stormtroopers on the nearby hill; if you do not, you will be short on enemies destroyed and won't get your Gold Medal.

If you head back quickly enough, you will be able to take out a TIE Bomber, and the mission ends when the convoy stops.

Tips

do not fly away from the convoy too often; TIE Bombers will appear without your knowledge and take out the convoy. Also, do not be afraid to use your Proton Torpedoes on the AT-ST's; you will have 6, one for each walker in the mission.

3. Search for the Nonnah, Chapter I

This mission introduces large protection missions which revolve around defending a certain target.

Briefing

In this mission, you will be flying over the lakes of Chorax, trying to locate a downed Rebel ship in a race against the Imperials looking for the ship as well. The Chorax system is located in the Rachuk sector, and contains one medium-sized star and one planet. It is a haven for pirates and smugglers.

Description

The Search for the Nonnah was an operation approximately 1 ABY. During a battle with Imperial forces over Chorax, the Rebel Alliance starship named Nonnah was damaged and forced to make a crash landing on the surface of the planet. The Nonnah, which carried stolen Imperial equipment and Rebel troops, was considered vital by both the Alliance and the Empire. The ensuing search for the crashed ship took place in the river valleys of the planet.

The Alliance sent Rogue Squadron, led by Luke Skywalker, and an evacuation shuttle to rescue the survivors; the Empire sent a squadron of TIE bombers along with a Sentinel-class landing craft carrying a ground strike force to destroy the ship and prevent the stolen equipment from falling into the Rebellion's hands. Rogue Squadron stalled the bombing runs and ground forces long enough to allow the safe escape of the shuttle carrying the survivors.

Prelude

After the successful Rendezvous on Barkhesh around six months after the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance forged ahead on worlds marginalized by the Galactic Empire. In one case around 1 ABY, the Rebels pushed their luck too far, and pilots of Rogue Squadron were called to clean up the mess. The starship Nonnah, which carried stolen Imperial equipment and Rebel troops had crash-landed in the river valleys on the planet Chorax. The cargo on-board the ship was severely valuable to the Empire, but rather then attempting to retrieve the cargo, the Empire decided to attempt to destroy it to prevent it from falling into Rebel hands.

Rogue Squadron, flying A-wings and led by Commander Luke Skywalker, went to Chorax to retrieve the equipment and troops before the Imperials could find them. Imperial forces set out to find the Nonnah at the sime time as the Rebels. At the northern lake, numerous Imperial Probe Droids surrounded the area.

The battle

As Rogue Squadron flew down a canyon close to the Nonnah's position, six TIE Interceptors attacked straight-on. The Rogues engaged the TIEs, shooting down several of them. The Rebel pilots also engaged the probe droids. The opposing sides had three possible crash sites nearby to search. Soon after the opening dogfight, the Nonnah was located at one of the crash sites. The Rogues and Imperials traveled to the site of the wrecked starship, which was buried stern-down in the water. An Imperial Sentinel-class landing craft put down on land across from the Nonnah and disgorged an AT-ST walker as well as 3 XR-85 tank droids to attack the Rebels. The Rogues destroyed the Imperial forces as a Rebel Lambda-class shuttle went to the surface to rescue the crew of the Nonnah. Eight TIE/sa bombers reinforced the Imperial task force and began bombing runs on the Nonnah and the rescue shuttle. Skywalker launched his craft's concussion missiles to destroy the AT-ST before engaging the tank droids.

In pairs, TIE bombers began their first attack run. As the second wave moved into attack position, the landing craft deployed three AT-PTs to provide additional firepower for the bombers. Despite overwhelming odds, the Rogues managed to shoot down all the TIE bombers and held off the other Imperial forces long enough for the shuttle to complete the evacuation.

As the shuttle prepared to leave, another squadron of TIE interceptors pursued it. Rogue Squadron managed to escort the shuttle to the extraction point, and the survivors were successfully rescued. Once the shuttle had escaped, General Rieekan ordered Skywalker to lead the Rogues away from the battle site. As Skywalker and the Rogues escorted the shuttle away, Skywalker executed a barrel roll.

Aftermath

Rogue Squadron successfully completed their mission, and the survivors and cargo of the Nonnah were successfully extracted. Some time after after the mission was completed, Rogue flight was once again called into duty when the Imperial general Crix Madine requested an appointment with General Rieekan on Corellia.

Behind the scenes

The search for the ship Nonnah is the subject of the third mission of the 1998 video game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, titled "The Search for the Nonnah." The player's default craft is the A-wing, equipped with lasers and missiles to target Imperial forces. The game's official guide outlines the background information to the mission and suggests the player target the TIE interceptors to protect his wingman, as well as accurately targeting lots of enemy units. The player will fail the mission if the evacuation shuttle is destroyed, or if the wreckage of the Nonnah is destroyed before the shuttle can finish evacuating it

Strategy Guide

Right away you will have 2 waves of 3 TIE Interceptors coming at you; take them out, but be weary of more that will join the fray. Take them all out, in addition to a stray TIE Bomber flying about. Fly around and take out the half-dozen Probe Droids that are lurking about, but keep moving; your A-Wing isn't equipped with heavy shields.

Once those are cleared, General Rieekan will tell you that the Nonnah is under attack, and your radar will indicate which direction to fly. Find the Nonnah, and you will see a Rebel Shuttle approach and eventually position itself over the Nonnah; your objective now is to protect this shuttle.

On the nearby shore you will see another Shuttle, this one Imperial. do not waste time shooting it, because it is too tough and isn't critical to your mission. Right away it dispatches an AT-ST and 3 tank droids; take them out, and an animation sequence will warn you of incoming Imperial fighters. These will consist of stray TIE Interceptors and TIE Bombers. do not worry about the Interceptors, but focus on the Bombers; they approach from the direction the Rebel Shuttle is facing and come in waves of two. Their sole purpose is to bomb the Shuttle. Try to take these out before they reach the Shuttle, or a few choice hits will destroy it.

Once all the fighters are taken care of, the Shuttle will take to the air, at which point you must escort it to safety. TIE Interceptors will come from behind, attempting to destroy the Shuttle. Fend them off until the Shuttle is away, and your mission is complete.

If you head back quickly enough, you will be able to take out a TIE Bomber, and the mission ends when the convoy stops.

Tips

The 'Friendly Save' in this mission is the Shuttle, so do not worry about protecting your wingmen from Interceptors. Also, take out as many enemies as possible; you need 38 enemies destroyed to get your Gold Medal. Time and accuracy are not concerns.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 4. Defection at Corellia. This battle took place on Corellia in 1 ABY. It occurred when the Imperial officer Crix Madine, who was interested in joining the Alliance to Restore the Republic, requested a proper meeting with the Alliance general Carlist Rieekan to discuss the terms of his defection. Three members of the elite Alliance flight Rogue Squadron manning T-47 airspeeders, commanded by Luke Skywalker, accompanied Rieekan to Coronet City, capital of Corellia, to patrol the city for any signs of Imperial presence while the meeting took place.

An Imperial strike team interrupted the meeting and attempted to kill both Rieekan and the Imperial turncoat by destroying the Technology Center and the Coronet Capitol Tower while they were still inside. The timely intervention of Han Solo and Chewbacca in the Millennium Falcon, as well as the arrival of evacuation shuttles, allowed for the Alliance to extract both Rieekan and Madine just before the Capitol Tower collapsed.

Prelude

After the Galactic Empire lost the search for the Rebel Alliance starship Nonnah, internal security in the Empire was tightened, and any hint of treason was dealt with swiftly. Imperial Commander Crix Madine had attempted to defect to the Alliance prior to the Battle of Yavin, and, to prove his loyalty, Madine provided essential guidance for the sabotage of Operation Strike Fear and the destruction of the Star Destroyer Invincible. However, it was the order to release the Candorian plague on Dentaal that convinced Madine it was time to leave for good.

Wracked with guilt over his role in the death of the entire Dentaalian population, Madine left his unit while performing a training mission in 1.8 ABY. Madine erased himself from Imperial records, although his disappearance was covered by some HoloNet news channels. He did not even tell his fiancée where he was going, not wanting to place her in a dangerous situation.

During this period, Madine provided clues to the Rebellion about the Dark Trooper Project; eventually he was captured by General Rom Mohc and imprisoned in Orinackra, where he awaited execution. Upon learning of his capture, Mon Mothma dispatched Kyle Katarn to rescue Madine, who revealed Mohc's role in the project. He also provided the Alliance with intelligence on two subsequent targets to sabotage the Dark Trooper project.

Following his escape from Orinackra, Madine fled to his safehouse on Corellia. From there, he requested a meeting with General Carlist Rieekan of the Rebel Alliance to discuss his defection. Rieekan accepted his request and was escorted to Coronet City by Rogue Squadron, under the command of Luke Skywalker. Before meeting with Madine, Rieekan was to attend a conference with Coronet City officials in the Coronet Capitol Tower.

The battle

Commander Luke Skywalker and a detachment of Rogue Squadron were assigned to patrol the city in their airspeeders for any signs of Imperial activity. After Wedge Antilles picked up strange transmissions, they flew to the outskirts of the city and found a squad of 5 probe droids. It turned out to be a diversion, however, in which squadrons of TIE bombers attacked the Capitol Tower during the Rogues' absence.

Rogue Squadron rushed back to defend the city, while another squadron of 4 TIE bombers moved in on the Technology Center in which Madine was hiding. The Rogues had routed most of the bombers attacking the Tower before they received a transmission from Madine, stating that the Imperials had begun attacking the Center. Skywalker left to protect him, as the rest of Rogue Squadron, along with the new arrival of Han Solo and Chewbacca in the Millennium Falcon, took care of the remaining bombers at the Capitol Tower.

By the time the Technology Center was safe, the Imperials had deployed an AT-AT walker, which moved to attack the Tower. It was then that Luke used Imperial defector Davin Felth's advice, and tripped up the walker with his tow cable. After the remaining bombers were destroyed, the Falcon and a Rebel Lambda-class T-4a shuttle began evacuating the Capitol Tower. At the same time, stormtroopers invaded the beaches in Amphibions, but the Rebel defense batteries managed to keep most of the troops out of the city.

The Imperials resumed their attack on Madine with a pair of AT-ST walkers leading another AT-AT, while a squad of Stormtroopers attempted to break into the Technology Center. Luke drove the Imperials off, while a second evacuation shuttle arrived to pick up Madine. With Madine's successful defection, and the evacuation of the Capitol Tower, Rogue Squadron withdrew from the planet. The Capitol Tower was destroyed as soon as the Rebel force departed.

Aftermath

Madine would go on to be a successful Rebel Alliance general, serving in battles such as the Battle of Endor, and would go on to be a general of the New Republic. One of his first missions with the Alliance was commanding Gold Squadron during the Liberation of Gerrard V, during which he would once again be involved with the actions of Rogue Squadron. In 12 ABY, while leading a commando team to sabotage the Darksaber superweapon, Madine was captured and killed by Durga Besadii Tai the Hutt. In his honor, the General Crix Madine Military Reserve was constructed over Coruscant during the reformation of the New Republic into the Galactic Alliance.

Behind the scenes

Rogue Squadron's mission to rescue General Rieekan and Crix Madine first appeared in the Nintendo 64 video game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, as the game's fourth mission, "Defection at Corellia." In this level, the player for the first time is required to use the harpoon and tow cable of a T-47 airspeeder against an AT-AT in order to complete the mission successfully. As the Battle of Corellia takes place in the timeline prior to the Battle of Hoth, during which Luke Skywalker supposedly devised the strategy for downing the four-legged walkers, this element of the mission may be non-canon and chalked up to game mechanics.

Han Solo's entrance into the battle, in which he saves a Rebel pilot by swooping down from above, and then shooting down the TIE bombers chasing him, all while shouting "Yee-haw," is similar to how he saves Luke Skywalker at the Battle of Yavin.

If the Nintendo 64 version of Rogue Squadron is played with the default Jumper Pak installed in the console, all TIE fighters that are present in this level are replaced with TIE bombers due to technical limitations in the game's memory.

Strategy Guide

Your radar will tell you to veer left, where you fly for a short time before finding 6 Probe Droids in a small valley. Once you destroy those, and an animation sequence tells you the city is under attack, you will turn right around and head back to the city. Here you will find pairs of TIE Bombers attacking the various city areas. When the bombers are cleared, the next animation sequence tells you that Crix Madine is trapped in the Tech Center, which is being attacked.

Go there and you will find 4 TIE Bombers mercilessly bombing the area. Destroy them and you get an animation sequence where the Millenium Falcon saves you from attacking TIEs. You are now being guided by your radar back to the city, but do not go just yet; your Bonus is nearby.

In the first or second city heading back from the Tech Center, the ground in the middle of the city is a distinctly brighter shade of blue than the rest. Next to a pair of identical short, long buildings, lies your Bonus. Pick it up and for subsequent missions you will have Advanced Proton Torpedoes.

Now follow your radar back to the city, where you will find two bombers attacking. Get them and Han Solo will talk to you about evacuating; that is your cue to get the AT-AT that is approaching in a nearby valley. Take it out with your tow cable, and you will see an animation sequence telling you that AT-ST's are attacking the Tech Center.

Race back there and take them out with your blasters, but you are not done there yet; another AT-AT is nearby, intending to take out the Tech Center. Take it out with your tow cable. Now a Rebel Shuttle will come in to rescue Madine, and you must protect it. 2 waves of 3 TIE Fighters will fly in, so destroy them before they get the Shuttle. The Shuttle heads back to the city, where it will land and rescue General Rieekan.

Take out any TIE Bombers that are attacking, and your mission is complete.

Tips

You only have 10 minutes to get your Gold Medal, so be quick about eliminating the TIE Bombers and the AT-AT's. Also, be sure to hit the brakes when you are getting the Bonus; you will have to pull up once you get it, no matter which direction you are coming from.

The Liberation of Gerrard V was an event in 1 ABY during the Galactic Civil War in which the planet Gerrard V gained its independence from the Galactic Empire. It occurred after a ransacking of the city by the local Imperial governor in anticipation of an uprising by Gerrard V's inhabitants against the Empire's rule. The insurgents were quickly reinforced by the Rebel Alliance, who deployed the starfighter outfits Rogue Squadron and Gold Squadron to disable the fleeing yachts and neutralize the capital city's turbolaser defense grid.

During the course of the battle, Kasan Moor, commander of the 128th TIE Interceptor Squadron, surrendered to Gold Squadron and offered defection to the Rebellion. Shortly after her surrender, the rest of the Imperial defenders were scattered, and the planet was freed from Imperial subjugation. Because of Moor's later assistance, the battle would be the first victory in a long string of victories against the Galactic Empire.

Prelude

A failed revolt against the Empire had taken place two years prior. After the initial uprising, the Empire responded by bombarding the surface with fire from an orbiting fleet. Much of the planet's surface was left in ruins and the ecosystem became imbalanced. The population endured Imperial subjugation until 1 ABY, gathering its strength until they were united enough to stage another revolt.

After concluding that the inhabitants of Gerrard V were pooling their resources for an attack on the Imperials, the local governor sent a squad of SoroSuub Personal Luxury Yacht 3000 transports to loot the planet of its military supplies and anything else that was valuable before he lost the world. As the insurgents' resources dwindled, their leader sent a distress signal to the Rebel Alliance, calling for backup.

The liberation

General Crix Madine of the Rebel Alliance, recently defected from the Galactic Empire, received the call. In response, he deployed Gold Squadron to reinforce the insurgents and disable the fleeing Imperial yachts. As backup, he appointed Rogue Squadron, the same unit led by Luke Skywalker that extracted him from Imperial detainment from Corellia.

Upon entering the capital city's borders, the turbolasers planted around the city that had been used to keep the planet under order opened fire on the attacking Rebels. Rogue Squadron provided support fire by focusing their fire on these cannons. As the turbolasers were all destroyed, a squad of seven AT-PT walkers rushed into the city, stationing themselves on the hillsides, though this was not difficult for the Rogues to handle. Gold Squadron eventually finished their ion cannon runs on the yachts, and were prepared to move on to the next district.

The 128th TIE Interceptor Squadron, under Lieutenant Kasan Moor, suddenly appeared from the horizon over the sea and swarmed the insurgents. Despite the sudden rush of hostile forces, Gold Squadron flew into the crossfire and continued their mission. The turbolaser tower overlooking the city was taken down by Rogue Squadron, and the last of the yachts were immobilized. Kasan Moor found herself tailgated and harassed by a Gold Squadron member, disabling her control systems via ion cannon. Moor surrendered and offered the Gold Squadron member an offer of defection. In the end, at least 33 Imperials were killed in the crossfire

Aftermath

Gold Squadron's mission was a success, and the city's supplies were returned. Gerrard V successfully pulled itself away from Imperial authority. Kasan Moor, true to her word, successfully defected and became a pilot for Rogue Squadron. She had extensive knowledge of Imperial outposts, and would lead the Alliance through string of victories. Shortly after the battle, she led the rebels into a supply depot on the Jade Moon.

Strategy Guide

Approach the city and take out the first two Turbolasers, both on the ground. Go left slightly and take out the Turbolaser on top of the building, then head straight and find the first of four Missile Turrets. Take out the first, then veer right and take out the remaining three.

Now turn back to the city and take out the remaining Turbolasers; there are a total of six in this city, four on the ground and two on top of buildings. Keep an eye out for AT-PT's here too, as there are 3 or so walking around the city.

Now you will be directed through a nearby canyon, where you will find 2 more AT-PT's. Once you take them out veer right slightly, and take out the nearby Missile Turret. you will be entering another city, and you should immediately see a mounted Turbolaser, with a Big Gun Turret nearby. Use a Proton Torpedo on the Big Gun Turret, but be careful; there is a Missile Turret right next to it.

Once the Missile Turret is history, take out the attacking TIE Interceptors, cleaning up any stray AT-PT's along the way. Once finished, an animation sequence will introduce you to Kasan Moor and the mission is complete.

Tips

Your primary objective is to protect the Y-Wings in this mission, and you need protect all 6 for your Gold Medal. The Missile Turrets are the Y-Wings' worst enemy, so take them out promptly. Also, be weary of Turbolasers that are tucked into the city, as they can be difficult to spot and can be a potential threat to you and the Y-Wings.
